Mark Davis Quartet will present jazz selections at Ripon College September 7

RIPON — Pianist Mark Davis, a mainstay on the Milwaukee jazz scene for more than 25 years, will bring a quartet to Ripon College Friday, Sept. 7, as part of the Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon series.
At 7 p.m., Ripon College Professor of Music Kurt Dietrich will conduct a pre-concert talk with the artists, all of whom are profiled in his new book Wisconsin Riffs: Jazz Profiles from the Heartland. The talk will be in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Offerings will include unique arrangements of jazz standards as well as originals.
Davis is chair of the jazz studies program at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Besides working with local musicians, Davis has performed with jazz greats Charles McPherson, Slide Hampton, Brian Lynch, Greg Tardy and many others.
For the concert at Ripon, he will be joined by bassist Jeff Hamann, who played for years on Michael Feldman’s Whad’ya Know radio show; drummer David Bayles; and trumpeter Jamie Breiwick, who has played in a duo with Davis for a number of years.
The Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon series for the 2018-19 season includes the Mark Davis Quartet on Friday, Sept. 7; Yo Soy la Tradición with Spektral Quartet and Miguel Miguel Zenón on Friday, Sept. 22; baritone John Robert Green on Friday, Jan. 26, 2019; and the NOW Ensemble on Friday, April 12, 2018.
