Accident On Forest Avenue Road

An accident on Forest Avenue Road Thursday afternoon is a reminder for the driving public that they need to slow down and pay attention if they are using the road as a shortcut between Fond du Lac and Rosendale while Highway 23 is closed for construction. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says a woman and her baby were shaken up when their vehicle went off the road and ended up upside down in a ditch. They were not injured. Waldschmidt says that road is narrow and isn’t really built for the same speeds as Highway 23. Town of Ripon Police Chief Howard Stibb was on his way back from court and was at the scene of the accident first, which is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department. It was reported about 2:30 that afternoon.

Large Manure Runoff Affects Miles Of Streams In FDL County

DNR officials don’t expect a large manure runoff into streams in Fond du Lac County to impact private wells. That’s because deep clay soils around the area help to protect the groundwater. The Redtail Ridge Dairy applied manure to several fields and heavy rains washed the manure off the fields and into streams. The spill impacted over 11.5 miles causing fish kills, mostly minnow-type fish along its path. The manure runoff affected miles of creeks in the Malone and Mt. Calvary areas and reached the Sheboygan River. The dairy has contracted with a local septic pumper to collect manure laden water.

Man Convicted Of Tampering With Johnsonville Sausages

A man who twice inserted objects in sausages being made at the Johnsonville facility in Sheboygan Falls pled guilty in a federal courtroom in Milwaukee Friday to one count of tampering with a consumer product. A similar charge against Jonathan Lane was dismissed. He will be sentenced on November 29th. Prosecutors are also recommending he pay Johnsonville over $42,000 in restitution. According to the criminal complaint he placed cigarette paper in a sausage link one day and a wire connector on another. In both cases the items were removed before the sausage was packaged.

Ripon Common Council Preview

The Ripon Common Council will consider an ordinance tonight that would pave the way for street cafes and a resolution that would place two questions before voters on the November 6th ballot. The ordinance allowing street cafes would limit them to one per block in the 100, 200 or 300 block of Watson Street. The referendum would ask voters if Common Council members should be elected “at large” or citywide. A second question would ask voters if they support term limits for the Ripon Common Council or Mayor. The Council meets at 7 pm at the City Hall.

Chip Seal Maintenance Closing Hwy 49 This Week

The state’s Department of Transportation tells us chip seal operations will take place on State Highway 49 from the village of Brandon to the city of Waupun this Wednesday and Thursday. Traffic will be detoured from County Highway TC in Brandon to County Road MMM in Waupun during chip seal operations. Drivers should take note there will be loose stones temporarily on the roadbed.
