5/5/25 Waupun Man Convicted of Reckless Homicide

5 May 2025 News

Following a five-day trial a Fond du Lac County jury last Friday night convicted a 27-year-old Waupun man of first-degree reckless homicide for a fentanyl overdose death. The judge revoked the bond for Dylan Mayne, ordered a presentence investigation report, and scheduled a sentencing hearing for Friday, June 13th. On the evening of May 16th, 2023, Waupun Police responded to 232 West Franklin Street where they found 26-year-old Shawn Kimpel dead and evidence of recent drug use. An autopsy performed by the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of Kimpel’s death was due to fentanyl toxicity. During a subsequent investigation that included collection of evidence, multiple interviews, and cellular device analyses, Mayne was identified as the suspect in Kimple’s death. A second individual also overdosed but was flown to a Madison hospital and survived. Waupun Police investigated the case and Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney and ADA Alexander Angle prosecuted it.
