CENSUS SURVEYS
Calumet County Sheriff’s officials say census surveys residents have received in the mail are real. They’ve gotten a few calls about the surveys titled “American Community Survey” arriving in the mail from the U.S. Census Bureau. While the large nationwide census happens every 10 years, the Census Bureau also conducts smaller surveys in between to help guide the planning and distribution of resources. Sheriff’s officials say it is okay to complete these surveys because your response helps to shape decisions that affect the community. If you ever have questions about the legitimacy of a survey or need more information, you can contact the U.S. Census Bureau directly at 800-923-8282.
MAYVILLE PARK VANDAL IDENTIFIED

Tips from the public helped the Mayville Police Department identify and locate the person who used a vehicle to damage the right field fence at the softball diamond at Ziegler Park. It appears the suspect used a vehicle to push in the fence. The appeal on the Department’s Facebook page was made late Wednesday morning. The damage was likely caused within a day of when it was noticed. Mayville Police say they appreciate the community’s support in keeping the city’s parks and public spaces safe and well-maintained. DRUG DROP RESULTS
Wautoma Police say as a result of the recent drug take back efforts, in partnership with the DEA, DOJ, and State Patrol they delivered 72 pounds of expired and unwanted prescription medications to the State Patrol at the beginning of the week. It helps prevent the drugs from being abused or ending up in the water supply. A permanent drug drop box is located in the lobby of the Wautoma Police Department if you have unused medications for disposal.
GREEN LAKE COUNTY ROAD CONSTRUCTION
Drivers will see some road construction in Green Lake County this year. Chief Deputy Matt Vande Kolk says that includes work on County Highway GG and County Highway H in the Marquette and Salemville area. Starting May 12th a four-mile stretch of County Highway A will be improved in the Markesan area from County Highway AW to County Highway I. He points out with improvements being made to State Highway 21 in Waushara County traffic is being detoured through Green Lake County. Vande Kolk says deputies will be doing extra patrols on those detour routes to make sure motorists aren’t trying to make up lost travel time on them. A list of highway projects in Green Lake County can be found on the County’s website under the Highway Department tab.

INADEQUATE REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE STATE
The Oshkosh Common Council approved a resolution last week asking the state’s Joint Finance Committee to fund the municipal services payment program at 100 percent. Oshkosh City Councilman Jacob Floam says the last time the program was fully funded was in 1981. It’s a payment in lieu of taxes program that reimburses municipalities for police, fire, water and other public services provided to state-owned tax-exempt properties like the UW-Oshkosh and Oshkosh Correctional. But the current reimbursement rate is less than 38 percent. According to Oshkosh City Administration figures the state owns properties in Oshkosh valued at more than $904 million which should yield the city $2.7 million yet the city is only being reimbursed a little over $1 million. Copies of the resolution were sent to the JFC, state representatives representing Oshkosh, and the Governor.
