From Wayne Mausser

Myles Turner scored 23 points and the Indiana Pacers won 129-103 on Sunday night to grab a commanding 3-1 lead in their Eastern Conference playoff series with the Milwaukee Bucks, who lost Damian Lillard to a lower left leg injury.

The Pacers can eliminate Milwaukee in the first round for a second straight year by winning Game 5 on Tuesday in Indianapolis. The Bucks have lost eight straight road playoff games and the last five of those defeats have come at Indiana.

Milwaukee might have to try ending that streak without Lillard.

The seven-time all-NBA guard was helped off the court and into the locker room after suffering a non-contact injury midway through the first quarter.

The preliminary examination of Lillard indicated a possible Achilles tendon injury, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. Further evaluation will take place Monday, the person told the AP on condition of anonymity because the team didn’t immediately reveal those details.

The Pacers led 15-12 at the time of Lillard’s departure and seized control without him. Indiana shot 60.2% from the floor, and eight Pacers scored in double figures.

Aaron Nembhard had 20 points and Tyrese Haliburton had 17 points and 15 assists. T.J. McConnell had 15 points, Aaron Nesmith 14 and Obi Toppin 13. Pascal Siakam and Jarace Walker added 12 points each.

Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points, 15 rebounds and six assists before leaving with 4:44 left and the Bucks trailing 120-98. Kevin Porter Jr. added 23 points for the Bucks.

Antetokounmpo was the only Bucks starter to score over six points. Kyle Kuzma continued his tough series by scoring three points and shooting 1 of 6.

Two nights after blowing a 10-point halftime lead in a 117-101 loss at Milwaukee, the Pacers bounced back. They won convincingly despite missing Bennedict Mathurin, who was out with an abdominal bruise.

Turner, who had scored six points while shooting 1 of 9 from the floor in Game 3, had nine points in the first 4½ minutes Sunday as the Pacers never trailed.

The Pacers went on a 10-3 run immediately after Lillard’s exit to extend its lead to double digits. Milwaukee couldn’t get the margin below five points the rest of the first half and trailed 63-52 at the break.

Indiana stayed in control the rest of the way by shooting 69.2% in the second half.

This matchup between two familiar foes continued the chippiness that has been evident throughout this series.

A double technical was called on Porter and Nesmith in the second quarter. Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis received a taunting foul in the third period after standing over Nesmith and trying to grab the ball from the Pacers forward, who had taken a spill on a drive to the basket. Walker and Milwaukee’s Ryan Rollins received a double technical in the third period.

Christian Yelich had two hits and two RBIs and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1 Sunday to avoid a three-game series sweep.

Jackson Chourio added two hits as the Brewers snapped a four-game skid. José Quintana (4-0) struck out six over five innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks to stay unbeaten this season.

Erick Fedde (1-3) was chased with two outs in the sixth. The 32-year-old right-hander gave up seven runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking our four.

Lars Nootbaar had two hits for the Cardinals, who stranded 11 runners.

The Brewers jumped on Fedde for three runs in the first inning. William Contreas, Sal Frelick and Rhys Hoskins hit RBI singles after Brice Turang and Yelich drew walks.

Milwaukee extended its lead to 7-0 with four runs on five hits in the fourth inning. Caleb Durbin and Turang singled home runs before Yelich drove in two with a single to right field.

Brendan Donovan doubled to right field in the fifth inning to score Nootbaar for the Cardinals.

After an off day Monday, Brewers RHP Freddy Peralta (2-2, 2.43) faces White Sox’s RHP Bryse Wilson (0-0, 4.30).

Elsewhere in the NL Central Sunday the Reds beat the Rockies 8-1, the Dodgers downed the Pirates 9-2 and the Phillies over the Cubs 3-1. The Cubs lead the Reds by a game and a half, the Brewers are 3 games out, the Cardinals are 4 ½ behind and the Pirates are 6 games out.,

In the Midwest League Sunday the Cedar Rapids Kernels won at home over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers , 8-1.There are no games scheduled today.

In college baseball Ripon College took one out of three games from Grinnell College. The Red Hawks lost the first game 4-3 in 10 innings, won the second game 14-11 and lost the third game Saturday 7-4.

UW-Oshkosh won doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday over Stevens Point. The Saturday scores were 8-1 and 12-3. On Sunday, Oshkosh won 5-3 and 14-4 in seven innings.

Ripon College lost a doubleheader Saturday to Lawrence University, 10-2 and 8-0 with both games ending in six innings due to the run rule..

On Saturday UW-Oshkosh swept a doubleheader from UW-Stout 7-4 and 9-2.

Attendance for the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay was 2.5 times more than anticipated, totaling over 600,000 guests.

Despite being the NFL’s smallest market, Titletown showed up in a big way.

Draft organizers repeatedly projected 240,000 people would attend throughout the three-day event.

The NFL confirmed the official attendance Thursday was 205.000 people.. According to the Packers, Friday’s attendance was 175.000 and Saturday’s was 220,000.

That’s a grand total of 600,000.

It ties Nashville where the draft was held in 2019 for second place on the list of highest draft attendance. Detroit in 2024 is still unbeaten at 775,000.

“Got to give Mark [Murphy] a lot of props,” said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur of the team’s president/CEO. “I thought as far as the operation, I can’t imagine any NFL draft being better than the one we hosted here. What a great experience, some really cool moments… It was pretty epic.”

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst echoed those sentiments.

“What an atmosphere, having the draft here. There’s just so many cool things that happened that quite frankly, I didn’t expect. I thought it might be just a nuisance, but it was such a cool environment, such a cool thing, and just a lot of thanks and gratitude to Mark for having the vision to bring that here. I think that was something that we’ll never forget.”

To get accurate attendance numbers, the NFL employs camera systems at all of its entry points, which count people as they walk through the gates.

The Green Bay Packers selected eight players in the 2025 NFL Draft: WR Matthew Golden (Round 1, pick 23), IOL Anthony Belton (Round 2, pick 54), WR Savion Williams (Round 3, pick 87), DE Barryn Sorrell (Round 4, pick 124), LB Collin Oliver (Round 5, pick 159), DT Warren Brinson (Round 6, pick 198), CB Micah Robinson (Round 7, pick 237), and OL John Williams (Round 7, pick 250)

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell believes owners will come to a consensus in May on whether rule changes will be needed to eliminate the tush push play that’s helped the Philadelphia Eagles win one Super Bowl and reach another.

A proposal by the Green Bay Packers to eliminate the play was tabled at the league meetings this month but will be brought back up for a vote when the owners meet again in May.

Some proponents of eliminating the play point to player safety even though there’s no evidence of an increased injury risk, as well as the fact that the NFL prohibited pushing a ball carrier until a rule change that was put in place in 2005.

The original proposal by the Packers would have only banned pushing a player who was lined up directly behind the snapper and receives the snap, immediately at the snap. There also has been discussion about banning pushing a ball carrier at any spot on the field.

It takes 24 of 32 votes to approve rule changes and neither side of the argument had clear support at the league meetings earlier this month.
