24 April 2025 Sports

The 2025 NFL Draft is hours away. The Packers are scheduled to pick 23rd in the first round of the just outside Lambeau Field.

There are needs at wide receiver, the defensive backfield and other areas of the team that need to be addressed.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst has eight picks but could make some deals to obtain more draft picks.

Round one of the draft begins tonight at 7:00.  The Tennessee Titans have the first overall pick and are expected to take Miami quarterback Cam Ward. Colorado’s two-way star, Travis Hunter, and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Penn State’s Abdul Carter, Michigan’s Mason Graham and LSU’s Will Campbell are all expected to be selected early. There’s also a bit of a running back renaissance in the NFL these days, with teams eyeing Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty and North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton in the first round.

Ward has tried to solidify his status as the top pick over the last few months, working out for all 32 NFL teams at Miami’s on-campus pro day.

Round one of the draft begins tonight at 7:00.  Rounds two and three will be held Friday and rounds four through seven conclude the draft on Saturday.

Wilmer Flores hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to back another strong start by Giants ace Logan Webb  , and San Francisco beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 on Wednesday night.

Jung Hoo Lee added three hits to help the Giants improve to 14-2 against right-handed starters this season, tops in the majors. Webb (3-1) pitched around traffic most of the night while outdueling Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta (2-2). Webb didn’t allow a run over 6 1/3 innings and had six strikeouts with three walks while lowering his ERA to 1.98.Peralta allowed five hits and three runs in five innings.

The Brewers scored twice in the ninth off closer Ryan Walker before Camilo Doval got the final two outs for his fourth save.

Brice Turang had three hits and two RBI for the Brewers.

The teams finish out their four game series this afternoon. Giants RHP Landon Roupp (2-1, 4.09 ERA) was set to start the series finale against RHP Tobias Myers, who is making his first start of the year after beginning the season on the 15-day IL because of a strained left oblique.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2:45 CDT.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Wednesday the Braves beat the Cardinals 4-1, the Reds downed the Marlins 5-2, the Cubs nipped the Dodgers 7-6 and the Pirates shutout the Angels 3-0. The Cubs increased their lead over the Brewers to 2 ½ games.

In the Midwest League Thursday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost at Cedar Rapids to the Kernels, 3-2. They play again tonight with the first pitch at 6:35.

In the NBA playoffs last night the Celtics beat the Thunder 109-100 to lead two games to nothing. The Cavaliers beat the Heat 121-112 to up their lead to 2-0 and Houston beat the Golden State 109-104 to tie their series at a game each.

The Bucks host the Packers Friday night, trailing 2-0 in their series.
