Cigarette Sparked FDL Shooting

The 56-year-old Fond du Lac woman who shot a man at the Riverview Apartments on Western Avenue last week told Fond du Lac police the man had been staying with her and she was tired of him lying and stealing from her. Bond was set at $1,000 cash when Elizabeth Hawkey was charged in Fond du Lac County Court last Friday. According to the criminal complaint the victim a 41-year-old man told investigators she had been drinking and threatened to shoot him when he took a cigarette. He thought she was kidding until she pulled a handgun out of a nightstand. She shot him in the leg and he grabbed the gun and her cell phone and left the apartment. Later at the hospital her blood alcohol content allegedly came back nearly three times the legal limit. She returns to court for a preliminary hearing Thursday.
