Drive Sober Campaign Kicks Off Friday
The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department, local police departments, and the State Patrol will be participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign that kicks off this weekend and runs through Labor Day Monday, September 3rd. It’s an effort to arrest impaired drivers and get them off the road. Last year in Wisconsin 161 people were killed and 3,034 were injured in alcohol-related crashes. In 2017 more than 27 percent of Wisconsin traffic fatalities were alcohol-related. In Green Lake County so far this year 63 people have been arrested for drunk, drugged or impaired driving.
Jet Aircraft Exercise
Ripon Police are reminding residents that Volk Field will be having their annual Northern Lightning jet aircraft exercises running through August 24th. There will be increased flying activity, including the potential for aircraft to travel at supersonic speeds above 30,000 feet, over a number of counties. Counties impacted could include: Monroe, Juneau, Adams, Brown, Calumet, Clark, Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Jackson, Marathon, Marquette, Monroe, Outagamie, Portage, Sauk, Sheboygan, Trempealeau, Waupaca, Waushara, Winnebago, and Wood.
Waupun Fire Department Receives Grant
The Waupun Fire Department has received a $2,160 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers. FM Global representatives presented the award to Chief B.J. DeMaa and Assistant Chief Mike Beer at the Waupun Fire Department. The award will be used to assist with fire prevention activities in the community to help educate the community and reduce the number of fires. During the past 40 years FM Global has contributed millions of dollars in fire grants to fire service organizations around the globe. Locally, the company has awarded grants to a number of Wisconsin-based organizations.
Applicants Sought For Columbia County DA
Governor Scott Walker is seeking applicants interested in serving as Columbia County District Attorney. Current District Attorney Jane Kohlwey is resigning effective January 5th. The appointee will serve out the remainder of her term and will be up for election in November of 2020. Applications can be found on the Governor’s website. Interested persons must submit a cover letter, short resume, and list of references with 3 to 4 references. Those materials should be submitted no later than 5 pm September 7th to be considered.
