Australian Company Purchases Bemis
The Neenah-based Bemis Company has been bought by an Australian packaging company in a $6.8 billion all stock transaction. Amcor and Bemis will merge to become what is described in a press release as a “global leader in consumer packaging.”Amcor shareholders will own 71 percent of the combined company. Bemis shareholders will own 29 percent of the company. On the New York Stock Exchange the combined company will be listed as New Amcor. Amcor employs about 35,000 workers in 40 countries. Bemis makes packaging for food, consumer products and health industries. It was established in 1858.
Fox Crossing Municipal Judge Suspected Of Stalking
A Fox Crossing Municipal Judge is free on a $1,000 signature bond after being charged in a felony stalking case. Fox Crossing Municipal Judge Len Kachinsky appeared in Winnebago County court Monday morning. As part of his court conditions he is not allowed in the Fox Crossing Municipal Building except to pay bills or absentee vote. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has suspended him from the bench. According to the criminal complaint Kachinsky’s court clerk claims he’s been harassing her since April of 2017. He is charged with felony stalking and two misdemeanor counts of violating a restraining order. He will be back in court on September 27th.
Flags Flown At Half Staff In Honor Of Former State Senator Ellis
Governor Scott Walker has ordered flags to be flown at half staff today as a sign of respect for former State Senator Mike Ellis. Ellis served in the State Assembly from 1971 to 1982 and the State Senate from 1983 to 2015. Ellis served as President of the State Senate from 2011 to 2015. Ellis passed away at the age of 77 on July 20th. Ellis’s life will be celebrated during a gathering at the Bridgewood Best Western Resort in Neenah tonight from 4 to 8 pm with a memorial tribute at 7:30.
Strand Will Remain On FDL School Board
It was recently announced the Fond du Lac County Chief Deputy Mark Strand will be retiring at the end of the month from the Sheriff’s Department after more than 37 years with the office. Strand said in his resignation letter to Sheriff Mick Fink that he had reached a crossroads in his life and it was time to retire. But Strand tells us he will continue his role on the Fond du Lac School Board. His elected term runs until April of 2020. Strand says they tackle a lot of important issues and they have good people serving on the board. He also is looking forward to the opening of the Career Construction Academy at the High School, which will give students an avenue to good paying jobs when they graduate. The Academy is currently under construction.
More School Safety Grants Announced
State Attorney General Brad Schimel recently announced another round of safety grants that will be going to schools and school districts to make improvements at their schools. Among the 60 schools or school districts that will be sharing that $5.5 million in grants is the Green Lake School District, which will receive a $40,000 grant. Also receiving grants are Shepherd of the Hills Catholic School in Eden which will receive over $21,000 and Valley Christian School in Oshkosh which will get more than $20,600.

Dump Truck Versus Car Collision In FDL
No one was hurt when a car and dump truck collided in the City of Fond du Lac Monday morning. It happened in the 300 block of Linden shortly before 8 am. Both vehicles were damaged and had to be towed from the scene. Firefighters successfully contained a small diesel leak from the dump truck that resulted from the crash.
