The body of a missing Milwaukee-area man is found in the Fox River. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says the body of 39-year-old William Koepke was found Saturday by fishermen in the River about a mile north of Omro. Koepke had been reported missing in January following a stay with friends at a cabin along the river in the Town of Rushford. Police say Koepke went out looking for his dog on January 15th and was not seen again. Search efforts at the time were unsuccessful, partially due to the cold temperatures. The body of Koepke’s dog was recovered last week.

A man and two children are dead in what Wisconsin Rapids police say is an apparent double murder-suicide. Lt. Brian Krzykowski says the father of the children fatally shot them and then himself at their home in Wisconsin Rapids. Police were called to the house about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday to check on a distraught person. Krzykowksi says when officers entered the home they encountered a strong natural gas smell and turned off the gas to the house. He says they found the bodies of the children, a 3-year-old girl and a boy, about 4, along with the father. All had suffered gunshot wounds. Police say the mother of the children was not home when the shootings occurred. Krzykowski says the girlfriend of the father’s brother is the person who called officers to check on him.

The state Government Accountability Board is asking lawmakers for money to help raise public awareness about Wisconsin’s Voter I-D requirement. The Board is asking the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee for 250-thousand-dollars to help fund a public education campaign. GAB public information officer Reid Magney says it would continue work started when lawmakers first passed the law five years ago, but was put on hold after lawsuits blocked the requirement. Judge Harold Froehlich questioned whether lawmakers will even approve the funding though, given limited state resources. A spokesman for JFC co-chair Alberta Darling said they look forward to seeing details of the proposal.
