Forest Avenue Enforcement Making A Difference
The local road Fond du Lac County residents have been using to avoid a detour for Highway 23 construction in the western part of the County is being heavily enforced. Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says at first people using Forest Avenue Road between Fond du Lac and Rosendale were not used to the lower speed limits and narrower road. That’s changed a little. Waldschmidt says they requested help from the State Patrol because semis were using the road, which has a 10-ton weight limit in the Town of Lamartine. They also needed to watch speeds on the road, which closer to Fond du Lac have a 35 mile an hour limit. The detour the state chose sends drivers north on I-41 to Exit 113 and south on Highway 26 to Rosendale where they can then take Highway 23 to Ripon. That detour is in place through August.
Fire Departments In Waupun Area Consider Consolidation
Fire departments in the Waupun area are exploring the possibility of creating a fire district. They’ve been looking at the proposition since last year of combining the city fire department with the country fire department that serves the towns of Chester, Waupun, and a portion of Trenton. Both fire departments operate out of the City’s fire station. Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa talked to the Waupun Common Council Tuesday night. He says consolidation could save on the cost of replacing equipment and cost sharing. It’s estimated the cost savings on equipment would be around $800,000. A committee will be formed in the next month to research a consolidation plan. It’s hoped the consolidation could happen by 2021.

Fighting Falcon Draws Attention At AirVenture
Fighter jets draw a lot of attention when they are at EAA AirVenture. The “Fighting Falcon” or F-16 at this year’s show is no exception. First Lieutenants Clayton Cook and Thomas Fry are with the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s Madison unit. They’ve been flying this particular jet for about a year-and-a-half. Cook isn’t modest about it’s abilities, which he says make it the best fighter jet in the world. The jet has a top speed of Mach 2 or about 1,200 miles an hour. As for its weaponry it is equipped with six-barrel Gatling guns that can fire 100 rounds a second. You can see it at AirVenture.
