In other team news, Veteran left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana is joining the Milwaukee Brewers on a one-year, $4.25 million deal with $1 million in potential bonuses, according to a person familiar with the negotiations.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement hasn’t been announced. FanSided first reported that Quintana was signing with the Brewers.
Quintana, 36, is coming off a 2024 season in which he went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA in 31 starts for the New York Mets. He struck out 135 and walked 63 in 170 1/3 innings. Over his last six regular-season starts, Quintana gave up four runs — three earned — in 36 1/3 innings.
He started the deciding game of New York’s NL Wild Card Series matchup with the Brewers and pitched six shutout innings in the Mets’ 4-2 victory, though he received no decision. Quintana had a total of three postseason starts, allowing six runs — five earned — over 14 1/3 innings.
Quintana now will compete for a spot in a Brewers rotation that returns right-handers Freddy Peralta, Tobias Myers and Aaron Civale. The two-time defending NL Central champions also added left-hander Nestor Cortes in a trade that sent two-time NL reliever of the year Devin Williams to the New York Yankees.
The Brewers could use some rotation depth as two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff and Robert Gasser come back from injuries. Woodruff missed all of 2024 while recovering from shoulder surgery, and he won’t be ready for the start of the season.. Gasser, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery., isn’t expected to be available until late in the season.
When he makes his Brewers debut, Quintana will have pitched for every team in the NL Central. He was with the Chicago Cubs from 2017-20 and split the 2022 season between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals.
Quintana owns a 102-103 record and 3.74 ERA in 359 career appearances, including 333 starts. He’s also had stints with the Chicago White Sox (2012-17), Los Angeles Angels (2021), San Francisco Giants (2021) and Mets (2023-24). He was selected to the All-Star Game in 2016.
The Milwaukee Bucks, NBA affiliate of the Wisconsin Herd, have signed guard Jamaree Bouyea to a Two-Way contract. Bouyea joins the Bucks after starting the season with the NBA G League’s Austin Spurs, where he played in 28 games (27 starts) and averaged 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.9 steals in 34.1 minutes per game while shooting 50.3% from the field. He scored 10+ points 27 times and 20+ points 13 times this season. Bouyea has appeared in 107 career G League games (104 starts) in three seasons with the Spurs, Sioux Falls Skyforce and Rip City Remix, averaging 17.3 points, 5.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 49.2% from the field.
In five collegiate seasons at San Francisco, Bouyea played in a conference-record 160 games (105 starts) and averaged 10.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 27.5 minutes per game. He earned First Team All-West Coast Conference honors in consecutive seasons from 2020-22 and ranked among the WCC’s top 20 scorers per game in three straight seasons from 2019-22.
A native of Seaside, California, Bouyea has appeared in 14 career NBA games with Miami, Washington, Portland and San Antonio and he holds career averages of 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 11.9 minutes per game.
The packers reportedly are bringing kicker Brandon McManus back.
Acquired before the Texans game last year, McManus only missed 2 out of 54 total kicks this past season. One came in the driving rain against Detroit. The other? In the playoff loss at Philly.
Adam Schefter reports the new deal is a 3-year pact worth %15.3 million, with $5 million as a signing bonus. That’s richer than any contract Mason Crosby ever saw (in terms of average annual value). Of course, the salary cap going up doesn’t hurt McManus, who becomes the 10th-highest paid kicker in the NFL, according to Spotrac.
Meanwhile, Davante Adams’ reunion with Aaron Rodgers lasted just 11 games with the New York Jets.
The team is releasing the veteran wide receiver ahead of the start of the NFL’s new league year next week.
The move, which was expected, will save the Jets $29.9 million in salary cap space. It follows the team’s announcement on Feb. 13 that they’re also moving on this offseason from Rodgers, Adams’, Adams longtime teammate and friend.
Releasing Adams will cost the Jets $8.3 million in dead-cap money, according to overthecap.com.
Adams was acquired by the Jets from Las Vegas last October for a third-round pick in this year’s draft. The 32-year-old three-time All-Pro was scheduled to make a non-guaranteed $35.64 million in each of the next two years. That hefty price tag made him a likely salary cap cut this offseason, especially after the Jets’ new regime — general manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn — decided to go in another direction at quarterback.
Adams caught 67 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games with the Jets. He also had 18 catches for 209 yards and a TD in three games with the Raiders last year, giving him five straight seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving.
Adams and Rodgers were teammates for eight seasons in Green Bay, and the wide receiver said in January he was uncertain what his next step would be. He acknowledged Rodgers’ future would “for sure” be a factor in his own decision, but added he “potentially” could be back with New York even if the quarterback isn’t.
Instead, the Jets moved on from both.
ESPN also reported the Jets have given wide receiver Allen Lazard, also a longtime teammate of Rodgers, permission to seek a trade. Lazard is due a non-guaranteed $11 million in base pay next season.
The NFL revealed new details about the upcoming Draft at Tuesday night’s Green Bay Common Council meeting, discussing what fans can expect when the gates open in just a few weeks.
For the NFL, the foundation is already set for the incoming Draft, the next few weeks are just about finding ways to make the event memorable for football fans
“I’ve had the chance to be around the world and see a lot of amazing stadiums, but there’s a moment where you walk out on that grass and it is special,” Jon Barker, NFL Supervisor, global head of major events and international games said.
Green Bay’s Council Chambers was filled to capacity with people eager to learn more about the Draft. The NFL is currently in town for their final site visit with plenty of new details to offer.
To start, the league uncovers a four-phase plan for both the construction of the Draft footprint, and the impacted road closures.
Phase one begins on March 29 when they begin construction on the Lambeau Field-themed Draft stage.
“Businesses and homeowners are all very different, so we’ll be communicating to them and working with them directly on what their accesses and needs look like throughout these closures and event days,” Jenn Marks, C3 presents event director said.
The NFL also announced several elements to the Draft experience, including player appearances, interactive experiences, as well as games and activities for the whole family.
Those activities in the bowl include opportunities for fans to do the Lambeau Leap and even kick a field goal.
Overall, the main goal for the league and the city is to provide the fans with a safe, but unforgettable Draft week.
