EAA Traffic Is Expected To Be Heavy

The state’s Department of Transportation reminds drivers to expect heavy traffic for EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh. The event begins today and I-41 traffic in and around the event should be aware of the potential for traffic slowing down and/or stopping due to heavy volumes of traffic. Traffic impacts for the event are expected to occur through Sunday. Among the tips they offer are no distractions while driving. Rear-end crashes are the most common type of crash in heavy traffic. Keep your eyes on the road and be prepared for back-ups/stopped traffic. They also recommend paying close attention to message boards along the I-41 corridor, event traffic will be using the right most lanes to exit I-41, and the largest traffic concern will be Friday night.

Former Ripon Police Chief Endorses Waldschmidt In Sheriff’s Race

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s candidate Ryan Waldschmidt has picked up the endorsement of Retired Ripon Police Chief Dave Lukoski. Lukoski says, “Ryan Waldschmidt is qualified to lead the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office because of his management and leadership experience within the office.Lukoski also says Waldschmidt’s education and training has prepared him to lead the office effectively. Lukoski served as Chief of the Ripon Police Department from 1987 to 2018. He retired earlier this year after 42 years of service to his community. Waldschmidt faces longtime Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Norton in the August 14th Primary Election. Both are running as Republicans. Each of them have picked up endorsements from current and former law enforcement officials in the County.

State Awards Funding To Replace Lead Service Laterals

More than $26 million has been awarded in a two-year effort to replace lead service lines at homes, schools and daycare facilities in 42 Wisconsin communities. Among the local communities receiving awards this year are Fond du Lac which will receive $200,000, Markesan is getting $185,000, Oshkosh will receive $300,000, and Princeton $305,000. Fond du Lac and Oshkosh also received funding last year to replace lead service laterals.

Register To Vote Prior To Election

Dodge County Clerk Karen Gibson is encouraging voters who are not registered to vote or who have changed their name or address since they last voted, to use the myvote.wi.gov. website to register to vote prior to Wednesday if they intend to vote in August 14th Primary Election. Following Wednesday registration will have to be in person at the Municipal Clerk’s Office or at the polls on Election Day. She says it is easy to register ahead of time using the myvote website.

New Oshkosh West High School Assistant Principal Starts

The Oshkosh Area School District has selected Aaron Herm, to serve as the new Oshkosh West High School Assistant Principal. Herm started Friday. Superintendent Vickie Cartwright recommended Herm, and the Oshkosh School Board unanimously approved his appointment during their July 18th meeting. Herm has nine years of educational experience, most recently serving as a special education teacher at Oshkosh West High School. Herm previously served as a high school special education teacher in the school districts of West De Pere and Menasha, as well as a social studies teacher at Beloit Memorial High School.
