Two Killed In Sheboygan County Accident

Two people lost their lives in a two vehicle crash in Sheboygan County’s Town of Sherman Sunday night. It happened at County Highway I and County Highway SS. Sheriff’s officials say a westbound car on Highway SS failed to stop for the stop sign at County I, went through the intersection, and was hit by a southbound truck on Highway I. Both passengers in the westbound car died at the scene. Flight for Life flew the driver to Froedert Hospital by Flight with severe injuries.

Man Indicted For Weapon Possession In Fox Crossing

A federal grand jury has indicted a man for a having a handgun in a Winnebago County village when he was prohibited from having a weapon due to his status as a felon. Thirty-five-year-old Nicholas Nelson is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm stemming from an incident in Fox Crossing. According to the indictment Nelson was found with a 40-caliber semiautomatic handgun in February of last year. The case is the result of Project Safe Neighborhood. That is a federal, state and local effort to prosecute people for violent crimes.

Pedestrian Struck By Car In Waupun

A 58-year-old Beaver Dam woman was taken to a hospital after she was hit by a car last Friday afternoon in Waupun. Police say she was walking in a cross walk on East Main Street at North Madison Street when she was struck by a car. The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries. The 34-year-old Waupun man who was driving the car was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian. The accident was reported at 1:19 pm.

Absentee Voting Underway

In-person absentee voting is underway for the August 14th Primary Election. Cut off dates vary. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says for instance for absentee voting by mail, it has to be requested by Thursday, August 9th. Most City clerks will accept in-person absentee voting through Friday, August 10th and some clerks through Saturday, August 11th. Municipal clerks should be contacted to check on availability. Freiberg says there has been some interest in in-person absentee voting. She says, “It is starting to pick up a little bit due to the fact that it has been in the media a little bit more that people are able to do that. Ballots have been available for about a month now.” All absentee ballots have to be returned to the appropriate clerk’s office by 8 pm on Tuesday, August 14th.

FDL County Fair Security

Those attending the Fond du Lac County Fair this week will see both Fond du Lac Police and County Sheriff’s deputies on the grounds. County Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says it’s a collaborative security effort with deputies patrolling the fairgrounds and police the exterior and perimeter. Most of the deputies will actually be deputy reserve officers. Waldschmidt says the public is welcome to stop by their command tactical van, which will be on the fairgrounds. He says, “It is down near the main offices, kind of on the south end of the midway. Certainly people are welcome to stop by and say hello we usually have little handouts and things.” The fair runs Wednesday through Sunday at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds in Fond du Lac.
