Milwaukee Man Hurt In Collision Between Two Trucks In Dodge County

The State Patrol is investigating an accident involving a dump truck and box truck that occurred near Theresa in Dodge County Wednesday morning. Twenty-nine-year-old Anthony Milons of Milwaukee was driving a dump truck west on Highway 28 when he pulled out from a stop sign into the path of a box truck that was heading south on Highway 175. Flight for Life flew Milons to Aurora Summit Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. The other driver a 41-year-old Steuben, Wisconsin man was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt.

Sun Prairie Fire Department Offered Help

The Waupun Fire Department was one of many that reached out to the Sun Prairie Fire Department to offer help following the death of Captain Cory Barr in a natural gas explosion in downtown Sun Prairie this week. Five other firefighters were injured Tuesday night in the explosion and fire. Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says Sun Prairie firefighters have a lot to process including their grief. He says he did talk to one of their people to see if they needed help. He says, “We have not been involved. I did reach out to Chief (Christopher) Garrison and let him know if there is anything in the days and weeks to come if there is a way we can be of help we are there, but to this point no we have not been over there to assist in any way.” DeMaa says they have been fortunate in Waupun the only firefighter death that occurred on duty was in 1982 during a laundromat fire. That firefighter suffered a heart attack while battling the blaze.

Dodge County Nursing Home Administrator Retiring

Officials in Dodge County will be looking for a new administrator for the county-owned nursing home in Juneau. Clearview Executive Director Jane Hooper announced her retirement this week. It will become effective in January. She has been in her current role since 2005, but has been with Clearview since 1980. Clearview is a 236-bed facility with an annual budget of $28 million and has 350 employees. Dodge County Administrator James Mielke says during Hooper’s tenure Clearview has gone from an operation that was dependent on the County tax levy to an organization that is self-sustaining. Mielke says he and the County’s Human Resources Director will coordinate the recruitment of the next Clearview Executive Director.

Berlin Teacher Mentors The Smart

A Berlin High School teacher is a smart mentor and now she will have the hardware to prove it. Karyl Kubrick Hanson will be awarded the 2018 American Mensa Distinguished Teacher Award. The award is given to an educator who has positively influenced a Mensa member in a significant way, whether it be in their education or in their life in general. Hanson is a teacher in the at-risk program at the high school. She was nominated by former student and Mensa member, Jessica Street. Jessica explained that Hanson saw her potential and was influential in making it possible for her to graduate high school. Hanson will be recognized for her achievements in education and her positive influence on her students with the award and $250 from the Mensa Foundation. Mensa is the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world.

Green Lake Water Ski Show Will Feature An After Party

The 12th Annual Water Ski Show will be held July 28th at Hattie Sherwood Park in Green Lake. Food will be served at 5:00 with the Ski show to follow at 6:00, and this year, they’re adding to the fun by hosting an all-new after party. Liane Walsh is the Executive Director of the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. She says they are excited about the after party which will feature Jigsaw a Milwaukee band that plays alternative rock. The after party will start at 7 pm.
