15 February 2025 News
The 22-year-old Oakfield man who crashed his vehicle into a Verizon Store in Fond du Lac in April of 2023 has been sentenced to 11 years of probation and 12 months of conditional jail on one charge and 9 months of conditional jail time on another charge. Benjamin Ayer was sentenced in Fond du Lac County Court Friday. Last month he pled no contest to eight counts including intoxicated use of a controlled substance-marijuana causing great bodily harm, four counts of second-degree reckless endangering safety, possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana possession, and operating while intoxicated causing injury. The crash injured six people, including a 29-year-old woman who was pinned under the car. According to the criminal complaint Ayer told an officer at the scene he was huffing compressed gas from an air duster canister in the parking lot of a restaurant on Rolling Meadows Drive before heading up the road and losing control of his vehicle ultimately crashing it through glass walls of Verizon’s showroom. District Attorney Eric Toney says the defendant’s significant history of substance abuse made him a ticking time bomb. He added thankfully no one was killed.
