People Are Going Around Barricades For Hwy 23 Project

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies are keeping an eye on the portion of State Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Rosendale that is closed for construction. The state’s Department of Transportation has issued permits to people living on that stretch of highway so they can gain access to their homes and businesses. But Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says that hasn’t stopped others from going around the barricades. He says even though you might not be able to see construction going on from those barricades it is. He says, “The reality of it is construction is underway, they’ve been replacing culverts right now so the highway is dug up in certain areas all the way across from ditch to ditch and you can’t get through. There are crews cutting concrete out in the Village of Rosendale.” A detour using I-41 to State Highway 26 to Rosendale and west on Highway 23 to Ripon will be in place through August.

FDL County Sales Tax Helped Out Alliance Laundry

Alliance Laundry Systems of Ripon is one of the companies that has been able to benefit from the money Fond du Lac County loans companies from County sales tax monies. County Executive Al Buechel is hoping the sales tax will be expanded past its sunset date at the end of 2021. He points out Alliance was loaned $6 million for its expansion efforts at a time when the company was not considering any capital projects and was thinking of taking its operations elsewhere. Buechel says it really helped the company to grow. He says, “That has resulted in just in Alliance Laundry of $132 million in capital investment there and the addition of 800 or more jobs.” He also notes that over the last 12 years Alliance’s workforce has grown by about 1,000 employees to over 2,000 workers.

Work Begins On Highway 23 Project In Sheboygan County

Work has begun on construction to improve 7.5 miles of State Highway 23 from Division Road in Sheboygan County’s Town of Greenbush to County Highway P in the Town of Plymouth. The state’s Department of Transportation says Highway 23 will remain open during construction. The project is scheduled to finish in mid to late August. During construction there will be single lane closures with flagging operations. All lanes will remain open during holidays and large race events at Road America.

Thirteen of the Board’s 25 supervisors signed a petition to cancel the meeting. The next meeting of the Fond du Lac County Board will be on Tuesday, August 21st at 6 pm.
