FIRE DAMAGES DUPLEX IN FDL

One person was injured and both people living in a duplex at 93 South Bell Street in Fond du Lac were displaced by a fire to the two-story residence Sunday afternoon. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue officials say both residents were able to get out of the home, but one suffered burns to a forearm trying to put out the fire. That person was taken to St. Agnes Hospital by private vehicle. When firefighters arrived heavy fire was showing from the rear of the residence. They brought the fire under control in about an hour, but had a difficult time putting it out due to the unique building layout and numerous enclosed spaces throughout the attic and second floor apartment. The fire remains under investigation, but the focus is on some garbage receptacles outside the building. The building was deemed uninhabitable, and the two occupants are staying with relatives. GREEN LAKE COUNTY SWITCHES 911 SERVICE PROVIDERS

The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Communications Center made the switch over Thursday to a different provider for its 911 services. The Department transitioned to AT&T ESInet™ from their former provider Brightspeed. Through AT&T and the Wisconsin’s Department of Military Affairs, Green Lake County received a sizable grant to upgrade its 911 service. Green Lake County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Vande Kolk says a lot of departments across the state will be making the same switch to ESInet. He says the new network should be more reliable and is next generation 911 capable. At this point they want to get up to their previous level of service and work out the bugs. However, he says down the line they will be able to add extra features such as text to 911. The switch in network providers was something the Sheriff’s Office has worked on the better part of two years.

CONGRESSMAN GROTHMAN ON PARDONING OF CAPITOL RIOTERS

President Trump’s pardoning of the January 6th 2021 rioters at the U.S. Capitol has sparked criticism from law enforcement groups and those who support the law. Congressman Glenn Grothman says not everyone who showed up that day had malicious intent or attacked Capitol Police. He says some just walked in the building and took photos, but others arguably should have been charged with something. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says there were those with serious criminal records who did pose a threat. However, he feels others were unjustly punished for just happening to be there. The group Police Leaders for Community Safety strongly condemned the pardons of January 6th rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol and attacked law enforcement officers. They say the pardons condone lawlessness and undermine the rule of law.

Meanwhile, Oshkosh Fire Chief Mike Stanley has accepted the position of Deputy Fire Chief with the city of Greely, Colorado. His last day in Oshkosh is this Wednesday. Floam says Stanley’s resignation was a bit of a surprise, but Stanley is originally from Colorado. He has been the Oshkosh Fire Chief since 2018. The Oshkosh Police and Fire Commission have named Assistant Chief Greg Stelter as Interim Fire Chief.
