Fireworks Safety

28 June 2018 News

Ripon Police and Fire officials work hand in hand to combat the sale of illegal fireworks within the Ripon area. But Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says there is no guarantee people won’t be using illegal fireworks this 4th of July. Saul points out that if a firework leaves the ground or explodes it is illegal. He says they can be both a fire and safety hazard. He says, “You know we have injuries and deaths every year around the country. I did a study in 2016 and in 2016 there was 11,000 injuries and four deaths from fireworks.” Chief Saul recommends leaving the fireworks to professionals. If you decide to use fireworks, even something as seemingly harmless as sparklers, he suggest having a garden hose on hand in case of fire.
