1/17/25 Escaped Sex Offender Captured

17 January 2025 News

A 44-year-old sex offender from Waushara County who left the state over three months ago was taken into custody in Danville, Illinois this morning. The Waushara County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a search warrant was executed, and David Ryan Thurber was taken into custody on felony warrants from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and Waushara County. An investigation revealed Thurber was living under an alias in Illinois. When he was arrested, he had methamphetamines and cell phones in his possession which violated sex offender regency rules. Sheriff’s officials say Thurber cut off his GPS ankle monitor on October 5th, which alerted state corrections officials who were monitoring it. Deputies responded to his address on Tri County Road in rural northeast Waushara County. They found the GPS ankle monitor in a field near Thurber’s residence. It had been cut off. Assisting in the investigation were the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, Weyauwega, Wautoma, and Danville Police Departments, the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office and the US Marshal’s Service.
