Beaver Dam Racer Dies

World of Outlaws sprint car driver Jason Johnson died Sunday morning after he was involved in a crash Saturday night in a sprint car race at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Johnson was 41. He won the 2016 Knoxville Nationals, one of the biggest sprint car races in the United States. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Johnson was airlifted to a hospital after his crash. The story had a picture of a torn Pabst Blue Ribbon billboard from Johnson’s wreck.  His team’s Facebook page posted that he was alive as of late Saturday night, but things obviously took a turn for the worst later. According to a video posted to YouTube, that corresponds to the picture of the broken billboard, Johnson’s car got pinched between the wall and another car.  His car then flipped over and he ended up flipping out of the track between the wall and signage posted outside of the track after hitting that PBR billboard.

FDL Man Sentenced For Restaurant Parking Lot Robbery

A 29-year-old Fond du Lac man who robbed a woman in the Friar Tuck’s parking lot in Fond du Lac last October has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of extended supervision. Fond du Lac County Judge Dale English sentenced Domonick Morrow Friday afternoon. According to the criminal complaint the victim went out to have a smoke and while she was sitting in her car was approached by a man with a rifle. He took her cell phone. The incident was caught on the surveillance video of a neighboring business. The night of the robbery a Sheriff’s K9 tracked Morrow to his apartment building. When police served a search warrant at Morrow’s apartment they recovered a .22 caliber rifle, which was loaded and had a round in the chamber. Clothing worn during the robbery and a busted cell phone were also seized. District Attorney Eric Toney says, “Armed robberies violate the sense of security for the victim and our entire community. The 15-year prison sentence was easily justified given the aggravated facts of this case.”

Phone Scams Reported

Ripon Police are advising residents that they’ve been getting several complaints about phone scams.  Specifically callers are contacting victims to report that they are under criminal investigations by the IRS and demand money to settle the action. In another scam a caller was told they would receive grant money, but first they had to send some money to cover fees for the grant. Police recommend being cautious about releasing any personal banking information over the phone or making payments to someone you do not know.
