A Fond du Lac County judge sentences a man charged with killing a young woman nearly three decades ago to the maximum 10 years in prison. Eighteen-year-old Berit Beck was strangled while traveling from Sturtevant to Appleton in July 1990 on a work-related trip. Sixty-four-year-old Dennis Brantner earlier entered an Alford plea to second-degree reckless homicide after an initial trial ended with a mistrial. Brantner agreed there was enough evidence for a conviction, but he maintained his innocence. The courtroom was packed Thursday when the victim’s father, Dave Beck, broke down when he recalled some of his daughter’s last words before her trip — that “all the people up north are good people.” Berit’s mother, Diane Beck, said she wished she had gone with Berit on her trip.

The Green Bay Packers are hiking the price of a regular season ticket by $7 and $2 for a preseason game. The team announced the price increases Thursday. Among the seating prices, an end zone seat will cost fans $54 for preseason games and $109 for the regular season. A seat between the 20-yard lines will cost $71 for the preseason and $136 for the regular season. The Packers have about 38,000 season-ticket accounts, including Green and Gold package holders, and a waiting list of about 133,000. It’s the ninth consecutive season that prices were increased. In a letter to ticket holder, President Mark Murphy says the new pricing should put the Packers just below the overall NFL average. Visiting teams get a share of ticket revenue.

Hundreds of people attended a forum to voice their concerns about the major Foxconn Technology Group project in Wisconsin. Carthage College held the first of three forums on the project Wednesday in Kenosha. The Taiwanese electronics company wants to build a large flat-screen facility in Mount Pleasant. The first forum focused on how the facility will affect the area’s culture and community. Some attendees raised concerns about the plant’s environmental impact. John Dickert, a forum panelist, said The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative aims to ensure the area’s water is protected. Dickert is the president and CEO of the initiative, which represents almost 130 mayors of Great Lakes cities in the U.S. and Canada. Dickert said the group will work to make sure the development is done right and cleaned up appropriately. Others expressed worries about the potential cultural shock from an influx of workers from outside the community and expressed an interest in hearing more from Foxconn officials directly regarding their concerns. The remaining two forums later this month will focus on the project’s impact on local government, geography and policy, as well as its impact on Wisconsin and beyond
