11/15/24 Former RHS Boys Basketball Coach Charged with Sexual Assault of a Student

The former Ripon High School varsity boys’ basketball coach accused of having sex with a student apparently met the victim in an online group chat. According to the criminal complaint for 31-year-old Mihai David Schnell-Harrison they moved their chats to Snapchat. Their chats became more graphic and sexual in nature. They eventually began exchanging nude photos of themselves. Ultimately, they met on November 6th and had sex in Schnell-Harrison’s vehicle in the school parking lot. The victim told Ripon Police after that encounter their chats on Snapchat became less frequent and he eventually blocked Schnell-Harrison on Snapchat. The victim is 16 years old. Schnell-Harrison at first told Ripon Police he didn’t know the victim wasn’t 18. A school district official told investigators Schnell-Harrison was still employed as the head basketball coach when he met with the student. Schnell-Harrison made an initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Court Friday morning. Bond was set at $150,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Friday. He is charged with felony counts of child enticement-sexual contact, sexual assault of a student-by school staff, exposing genitals, possession of child pornography, and exposing a child to harmful materials. He was ordered not to have contact with the school district, victim or his family, or anyone under the age of 18.
