Snow covered slippery roads are being blamed for three fatal crashes in Fond du lac County over the weekend that claimed the lives of four people. A Lyndon Station man was killed in a head on collision when his car crossed the center line on Highway 23 near Highway M in the town of Rosendale Saturday evening. The victim has been identified as 34 year old Rickey Allen. The Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the second vehicle, 22 year old Jacob Baus, of Mt. Calvary and a passenger, 22 year old Colleen Elzinga, from Illinois received minor injuries. Sheriff’s captain Ryan Waldschmidt says two Brandon area men, Daniel Emmer and Brian Emmer Jr. were killed in a two vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Highway 49 at County Highway E near Waupun. Two Brandon area women in the other car, Amy and Haley Huenink, received non life-threatening injuries. Waldschmidt says Saturday morning a 77 year old female passenger in a car that collided with a pickup truck on Highway 44 was pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim was identified as Patsy Knight of Markesan. Waldschmidt says westbound car operated by 50 year old Rebecca Knight of Sheboygan crossed the center line, striking an eastbound pickup truck. Rebecca Knight was transported to Ripon Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The 52 year old male driver of the pickup, Louis Smith, of Markesan was treated at the scene and released. All three were wearing seatbelts.

Gov. Scott Walker says he’s offering Kimberly-Clark “the same deal for jobs as Foxconn” to stop the consumer products giant founded in Wisconsin from cutting 600 jobs. Walker made the comment on Twitter Monday without providing any additional details. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says in a tweet it is working with Walker and partners in the Fox Valley “to make a strong case for why Kimberly-Clark should maintain operations” and not close two plants. The Dallas-based Kimberly-Clark announced last week that it planned to close manufacturing facilities in Neenah and nearby Fox Crossing, resulting in 600 job cuts. Kimberly-Clark makes Kleenex tissue and Huggies diapers. Walker approved a state incentive package for Foxconn that ties nearly $3 billion from the state if the Taiwanese company creates 13,000 jobs and invests $10 billion.

The state Department of Justice is contracting with two more private labs to analyze untested sexual assault kits. The Joyful Heart Foundation has been pushing states to analyze untested kits in hopes of developing DNA profiles for serial offenders. Nearly 4,000 Wisconsin kits have been designated for testing. Analysis has been completed on 862 kits so far. The state contracted with Bode Cellmark Forensics in November 2016 to perform testing beginning in January 2017. DOJ announced on Monday it has set up deals with Sorenson Forensics in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Marshall University Forensics Science Center to test kits as well. They said Sorenson will test 1,000 kits and Marshall will test 300 kits by the end of the year. DOJ is using federal grants to fund the testing.

A new leader is named for the troubled Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, which has been dogged by concerns about inadequate care and poor building conditions. The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs says Richard Mapes will take over on March 19 as the new commandant of the Veterans Home at King, which has more than 650 residents. The department says Mapes has 20 years of experience as a senior living and retirement facilities administrator, and has been a member of the Navy Reserve for more than 30 years. Mapes will oversee a King veterans home that has been criticized for resident neglect, low employee morale and staffing shortages. Jim Knight, the former commandant of the facility, was reassigned within the state agency last March.
