After rehabbing during Wednesday’s practice, Jordan Love was back practicing on Thursday ahead of the Green Bay Packers’ home matchup Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Love was diagnosed with a groin strain on Monday, an injury he sustained early in the third quarter of the Packers game in Jacksonville. With rain pouring down outside during Thursday’s practice at Clarke Hinkle Field, Love was cautious with the wet field conditions. The quarterback did go through drills as normal though while wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg. On Wednesday, Love said there is a “realistic” change he plays Sunday in a matchup that, with a win, would put the Packers in first place in the NFC North.

Love wasn’t the only Packer to return to the practice field on Thursday. Running back Josh Jacobs was back after working his way back from a hurt ankle on Wednesday.

“I’m just managing my body man,” Jacobs told reporters on Wednesday. “I’ll be good game time. Just normal football. A lot of hits.” The Packers also gained a pair of offensive lineman back on Thursday. Left tackle Rasheed Walker and left guard Elgton Jenkins were both practicing.

Walker did not practicing Wednesday due to a knee injury while Jenkins was working through a glute injury. The Packers were without cornerback Jaire Alexander (knee), safety Evan Williams (hamstring) and center Josh Myers (wrist) on Thursday. The trio did not practice for a second-straight day.

In Thursday Night Football the Jets won at home over the Texans, 21-13.

Trailiing in the fourth quarter, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson made a spectacular 26-yard, one-handed catch in the end zone that propelled the New York Jets to the win at Met Life Stadium.

It was Wilson’s second touchdown catch of the game

Houston led 7-0 at the half and 1-7 after three quarters before New York scored two touchdown in the final quarter. Aaron Rodgers was 22 of 31 for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson caught nine passes for 90 yards and two scores while Rodgers former Packers teammate Davante Adams, caught seven passes for 91 yards and a touchdown.  Bryce Hall rushed 15 times for 74 yards.

The Texan’s C.J. Stroud was just 11 for 30 for 191 yards. Tank Dell caught six passes for 126 yards and Joe Mixon rushed 24 times for 106 yards and a touchdcown.

The Jets improve to 3-6 while the Texans drop to 6-3.

Ja Morant had 26 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds and helped the Memphis Grizzlies build a 31-point second-half cushion and beat the Milwaukee Bucks 122-99 on Thursday night.

Santi Aldama added 19 points and nine rebounds, while Scotty Pippen Jr. and Jaylen Wells finished with 16 points each as the Grizzlies snapped a two-game skid. Memphis ended the night shooting 52%, including Morant going 9 for 16. Seven Grizzlies players finished in double figures.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 37 points and 11 rebounds, connecting on 17 of 22 shots. Brook Lopez scored 12 and Bobby Portis Jr. finished with 11 points.

Milwaukee has lost four straight.

The Bucks Damian Lillard continues to struggle with his shooting. Lillard was 1 for 12 in the game , including missing all six of his 3-pointers. Lillard is just 6 for 27 on 3s in his last three games.

The Bucks were 9 for 42 from 3-point range, while Memphis finished the night at 52% Milwaukee hosts Cleveland Saturday, while the Grizzlies visit Philadelphia.

In college football Saturday, the Badgers play the Hawkeyes in Iowa City. Wisconsin is 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten while Iowa also comes in at 5-3 and 3-2 in the conference.

Both teams enter November looking to enhance their bowl positions. The winner is bowl eligible, and the loser has three more chances to get a sixth win. The Badgers had their three-game win streak end with their home loss to Penn State. Iowa is coming off a home win over Northwestern but is yet to win consecutive Big Ten games.

A key matchup is Wisconsin run defense vs. Iowa run game. The Badgers have been uncharacteristically soft against the run, allowing 144 yards per game to rank 14th in the Big Ten and 4.45 yards per carry to rank 15th. Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson is running for 143 yards per game to lead the conference and 7.84 yards per carry. The Badgers like their chances if Iowa has to lean on its dismal passing game.

Wisconsin leads in the all-time series, 49-46 and there have been two ties.

Kickoff is at 6:30  and the game can be heard on AM 1600/93.1 FM, WRPN.

In area college football games, Ripon College is at Monmouth College with the kickoff at 1L00.

UW-Oshkosh is at UW-Eau Claire with the kickoff at 1:00.

Pitcher Wade Miley’s $12 million mutual option with the Milwaukee Brewers for 2025 was declined, the team said Thursday, causing the left-hander to get a $1.5 million buyout and become a free agent.

Miley, who turns 38 on Nov. 13, made just two starts this season before Tommy John surgery on May 7 and went 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA. He had been 9-4 with a 3.14 ERA in 23 starts in 2023.

Miley is 108-99 with a 4.07 ERA and 1,361 strikeouts over 1,745 1/3 innings with Arizona (2011-14), Boston (2015), Seattle (2016), Baltimore (2016-17), Milwaukee (2018, 2023-24), Houston (2019), Cincinnati (2020-21) and the Chicago Cubs (2022).

The state softball tournament will now be four days instead of three.

The WIAA Board of Control on Thursday approved to expand the state softball tournament to address early start times and the time-constraint concerns of conducting seven games in a single day. The tournament will now run Wednesday through Saturday, with Division 1 quarterfinals being played Wednesday.

Thursday’s schedule will include Division 5 and Division 4 semifinals followed by one Division 1 semifinal. The other Division 1 semifinal will be played Friday morning with Division 3 and Division 2 semifinals to follow. Saturday’s schedule of championship games will remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, in track & field, the Board of Control approved to expand the number of qualifiers from eight to 10 in all state meet events with the related increase in qualifying medals starting next spring. Extra qualifiers will include individuals and relay teams with marks or times that rank in the top 10 performances of all sectionals combined.

The Board also supported one recommendation in lacrosse. Beginning next spring, the highest-seeded team will host the sectional final, but if the higher seed is unable to host, the game will be moved to a neutral site.
