From Wayne Mausser

The Packers are off today after a come-from-behind win over the Houston Texans, 24-22.

After taking advantage of turnovers for the first third of the season, the Green Bay Packers are now getting a little too careless with the ball.

The Packers (5-2) committed three turnovers and didn’t get a single takeaway Sunday in their 24-22 victory over the Houston Texans.

Houston scored 16 points off turnovers, including two scoring drives that started on the Green Bay 11-yard line.

Green Bay still earned its third straight victory as Brandon McManus capped his Packers debut by kicking a 45-field goal as time expired, but the inability to protect the football was noteworthy for a team that entered the game leading the NFL with a plus-9 turnover margin.

It’s hard to overcome losing the turnover battle by three in this league,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said after the game.

Indeed, this marked the first time the Packers had won a game in which they posted a turnover margin of minus-3 or worse since a 23-22 victory over the Detroit Lions on Oct. 14, 2019, according to Sportsradar.

Green Bay still has a league-high 17 takeaways, but the Packers also have committed 11 turnovers. Heading into Monday night’s games, the only teams with more turnovers were the Las Vegas Raiders (16), Carolina Panthers (12) and Tennessee Titans (12)

Jordan Love’s 15 touchdown passes are second in the league, behind Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield, who threw two Monday night. Love has reached those totals despite missing two games earlier this season with a knee injury.

But he also has thrown eight interceptions, matching Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes and Las Vegas’ Gardner Minshew for the most by any quarterback this season. His eight interceptions have come in 179 pass attempts, whereas last season he was picked off 11 times in 579 passes.

That reflects Love’s confidence in his arm and willingness to throw high-risk, high-reward passes. For instance, Love threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tucker Kraft on Sunday that nearly got deflected or picked off by Calen Bullock.

“It’s the NFL,” Love said. “There’s not always going to be wide-open guys. It’s going to be tight windows you’ve got to fit the ball in there sometimes, and I’m going to keep playing. I learn and grow from the mistakes, the interceptions and just keep playing, keep moving on, but that’s not ever going to limit me.”

In other team news, The Packers have activated DL Jonathan Ford off injured reserve/designated for return and released LS Matt Orzech (OR-zick). General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Monday.

There were two games in Monday Night Football.

The Baltimore Ravens won at Tmapa Bay over the Buccaneers 41-31. The Bucs held a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, before the Ravens scored 17y points in the second quarter to lead at the half. They added 17 more in the third quarter before the Buccaneers scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The Ravens Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes as he completed 17-22 passes for 281 yards. He threw touchdown passes to four different receivers, two to Mark Andrews and one each to Rashad Bateman, Justice Hill and running back Derrick Henry, who also rushed for 169 yards on 15 carries.

Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield was 31 of 45 for 370 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Ravens improve to 5-2 while the Buccaneers drop to 4-3.

In the second game Chad Ryland hit a 32-yard field goal to give the Cardinals a 17-15 win over the visiting Chargers.at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

James Comer had a 33-yard reception on the drive to put Arizona into field goal range.

A 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on the Chargers helped Arizona on the drive.

The Cardinals Kyler Murray completed 14 of 26 passes for 145 yards, a touchdown and an interception and James Connor rushed 19 times for 101 yards.

The Chargers Justin Herbert completed 27 of 39 passes for 349 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. The Chargers as a team managed just 59 yards.

Arizona improves to 3-4 while Los Angeles drops to 3-3.

The Milwaukee Brewers have made a change at hitting coach, with Al LeBoeuf and Eric Theisen coming up from their Triple-A affiliate to take over for Connor Dawson and Ozzie Timmons.

Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold announced the moves on Monday.

LeBoeuf will have the title of lead hitting coach, while Theisen will be on Milwaukee’s staff as hitting coach. They worked together this year as the hitting coaches for Triple-A Nashville.

Dawson and Timmons had been Milwaukee’s co-hitting coaches for the last three seasons. Arnold said Dawson would remain on the Brewers’ coaching staff next season but Timmons wouldn’t be back.

LeBoeuf, 64, has been a Triple-A hitting coach the last six years. He had been at Nashville since 2021. He joined the Brewers organization in 2010 after previously coaching in the farm systems of the Philadelphia Phillies (1989-2000), New York Mets (2001-05), Kansas City Royals (2006) and Toronto Blue Jays (2007-09).

“In his 15 seasons in the organization, Al has played a key role in the development of many of the young hitters you see on the major league team today,” Arnold said in a statement. “His familiarity and relationships with all these players will be a great resource for us. Al has had a long journey to get here and we are very excited for him.”

Theisen, 39, has spent the last four seasons in the Brewers organization. He joined the Brewers as a hitting coach with Single-A Carolina in 2021.

“Al and Eric have worked alongside each other as hitting coaches in the farm system, and we look forward to them joining Connor at the major league level,” Arnold said. “At the same time, we want to thank Ozzie for all his contributions on the field and as a person over the last three seasons. We wish him all the best.”

The Brewers ranked sixth in the majors in runs scored (777), eighth in batting average (.248), fourth in on-base percentage (.326), 13th in slugging percentage (.403) and 10th in OPS (.729) while winning their second straight NL Central title this season under first-year manager Pat Murphy.

The Green Bay Packers responded to video on social media that shows a Packers fan appear to block a Texans’ attempted Lambeau Leap after scoring a touchdown Sunday.

Video posted on X by NFL Spotlight host Ari Meirov shows Houston running back Joe Mixon jump up toward fans but “fans weren’t having it.” One fan, dressed in green and gold overalls, pushes Mixon away.

Mixon barely got chest high over the padding lining the stadium bowl, though he tried to cling to the edge and exchanged words with the fan.

Monday, the Packers said the fan was not ejected. Video of the incident was reviewed “and determined to be inconclusive,” therefore the fan was given a verbal warning about his behavior and allowed to go back to their seat.

The Green Bay Police Department says there was a separate incident involving another fan nearby at about the same time. The fan in that incident was ejected.

The Packers say these two incidents, being close together and at about the same time may have caused confusion that the fan who put his hands on Mixon was ejected. He was not.

Green Bay police reported were 22 calls for service and various reports of Fan Code of Conduct violations at Sunday’s game. Five people were ejected from the stadium and police made two arrests.

At the end of the 2019-20 season, Winslow was traded to the Memphis Grizzles where he finished out the season playing in 26 games averaging 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
