10/19/24 FDL Man Convicted of Reckless Homicide in Drug Overdose Death

19 October 2024 News

A 47-year-old Fond du Lac man has pled guilty to a charge of first-degree reckless homicide as a party to the crime for the overdose death of a Fond du Lac man in December of 2020. Joshua Weber was in Fond du Lac County court Friday for a plea hearing. A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered, and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 27th. According to the criminal complaint Weber drove the victim down to Milwaukee to purchase drugs from a source Weber knew on Christmas Day of 2020. Weber later told investigators he took the victim there in return for free drugs. He stated he didn’t recall how much heroin they received and that it was probably fentanyl, not heroin. According to the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office an autopsy found “Fentanyl toxicity/overdose with evidence of recent cocaine use.”  According to the criminal complaint the victim was a recovering drug addict and had been clean for approximately two months.
