An elderly Antigo man is killed and two people were injured in a two vehicle crash on Interstate 41 south of Fond du lac. The crash happened shortly after 2pm Tuesday on northbound 41 near Fond du Lac County Highway B. An 80 year old Antigo man, identified as Jerry L. Demlow, was killed and two Green Bay men received non life-threatening injuries in the crash. Fond du Lac Fire chief Pete O’Leary says the crash happened when a car rear-ended a semi that was slowing due to a traffic back-up from another crash that had occurred earlier on 41 near Highway 151 in Fond du Lac. O’Leary says the crash is a deadly reminder that motorists need to pay attention. About an hour before the fatal crash, Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue responded to a crash that shut down traffic in both directions.

A group of Republican legislators introduce a bill that would relax restrictions on wineries and craft breweries. Reps. Dale Kooyenga, Shannon Zimmerman and Gary Tauchen along with Sen. Sheila Harsdorf introduced the bill during a news conference Tuesday at the Wisconsin Brewing Company in Verona. The measure would allow wineries to stay open until 2 a.m. Now they must close at 9 p.m. It also would allow microbreweries to sell their products on-site and increase the number of liquor license municipalities can issue by 10 percent. Restaurants would be allowed to operate distillpubs, establishments similar to brew pubs that sell hard liquor. Zimmerman told reporters that the bill would make things easier and more equitable for small wineries and breweries.

A federal appeals court is keeping gray wolves in the western Great Lakes region on the endangered species list. A panel of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday upheld a district judge’s 2014 ruling that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had acted prematurely by removing federal protections from wolves in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Wolves had nearly disappeared from the region when they were designated as endangered in the 1970s. They now total about 3,800. Federal and state regulators say they’ve recovered and should be returned to state management, which could include allowing wolf hunting. Environmental groups say they’re still vulnerable. The appeals panel says the government hadn’t reasonably considered factors including loss of the wolf’s historical range.
