INCREASING WILDFIRE DANGER THIS WEEK
The state’s Department of Natural Resources is asking the public to check fire danger before conducting outdoor burning activities. Dry weather, gusty winds and minimal chances of precipitation ahead of a strong cold front are in the forecast for the week, leading to the potential for increased fire activity. Fire danger will continue until there is significant rainfall. Dry vegetation from lack of rainfall is more susceptible to carrying a wildfire. The main cause of wildfires at this time of year is burning brush and leaf piles, and debris burning continues to be the number 1 cause of wildfires in Wisconsin. Sparks from recreational equipment, campfires and hot ashes from fireplaces are also contributing causes. As of this morning the fire danger across the state is at a moderate level with a high danger level for the most northeast and northwestern counties of Wisconsin. A 30-year-old Milwaukee man has been sentenced to four years in prison and four years of extended supervision for shooting off a gun in a Fond du Lac Tavern. Devonta Tate was sentenced in Fond du Lac County court Monday on felon in possession of a firearm and felony bail jumping charges. On July 1st a jury found him guilty of those charges and not guilty of five other charges including attempted first-degree intentional homicide. According to the criminal complaint there was a fight at the bar and Tate brought a handgun into the tavern firing off six shots. Three went into the ceiling and one into a door. REPRESENTATIVE DALLMAN ON DECLINING FORUM INVITATION
State Representative Alex Dallman issued a press release Monday saying he had officially declined an invitation from the League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area and the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin to participate in a forum for the candidates running in the 39th Assembly District. He says he is fully committed to remaining in touch with all of the voters of the 39th Assembly District. The Republican state lawmaker from Green Lake explains in his press released that the League of Women Voters has been under increased scrutiny for the last several years and has become increasingly more liberal. He says, “I will not participate in a forum that is hosted by a liberal organization that hides under the guise of a non-partisan title.” He added, “The League of Women Voters has spent thousands of dollars to defeat constitutional amendments that would have placed more checks and balances across our dysfunctional government, while also actively trying to allow non-United States citizens to vote in our state and local elections.” Dallman faces Democrat Christine Gordon in the November 5th election.
KEEPING THE GOVERNMENT OPERATING
Wisconsin Congressman Glenn Grothman says before Congress took its latest break he voted for a continuing resolution to keep the Government funded until Congress reconvenes. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says some fellow Republicans didn’t want to keep the funding going instead wanting to wait until the Federal Budget is passed, but he says people want to keep the Government operating. He feels it would be reckless to allow the funding to lapse going into an election and this way the Government will remain funded at least going into December, Grothman says Republicans wanted to negotiate, but Democrats who control the Senate weren’t willing to do that, so the continuing resolution was the only avenue they had.
