FRAUD ATTEMPT UNCOVERED SUSPECT BUSTED
Bond was set at $500,000 Friday for an 18-year-old man from India in league with a criminal organization that tried to defraud a 61-year-old Dodge County resident out of their savings. The victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office Wednesday about a phone scam in which the caller said they were an agent with the Federal Trade Commission. They asked the victim to withdraw all their money from the bank in cash, claiming the victim’s social security and bank accounts had been compromised. The scammer promised the FTC would issue a new social security number and new bank accounts to the victim. The criminal organization sent Laxit Devendra Patel from the Chicago, Illinois area to the victim’s residence to pick up the funds. The Sheriff’s Office used an undercover officer to complete the transfer to Patel. He was arrested after the transfer. The criminal organization attempted to defraud the victim of over $81,000. Patel has been charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to commit theft by false representation. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday. (Dodge County Jail photo)

SENATOR JOHNSON ON HARRIS CAMPAIGN STOP
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson countered Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign stop in Madison Friday with interviews giving the Republican viewpoint on the Presidential campaign. The federal lawmaker from Oshkosh says a failed open border policy and the economy are two of the biggest issues in the campaign. He says costs have gone up significantly during the Biden Administration. He says it cost about $1,000 a month more just to maintain the same standard of living people had prior to the Biden Administration. Johnson also claims that according to one publication Harris lied about quite a bit during her recent debate with former President Trump. The Federalist alleges she talked about 25 lies during that debate. Johnson says the problem is that the mainstream media is not going to point things like that out to the American public. He also says that the so-called Project 2025 plan is propaganda dreamed up by a think tank that Democrats can use against Trump.

OASD COLLABORATION CONTINUES
The Oshkosh Area School District Education Foundation is continuing its partnership with the Hoffmaster Group, which will provide $10,000 in funding for educational field trips for the second consecutive year. DEPUTY FINDS TREASURED WATCH
While doing some training last week a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Dive Team member came across an Apple watch submerged in the water, sitting on the bottom. Unfamiliar with how to use it the deputy asked another deputy wearing an Apple watch for help in trying to locate the owner. The second Deputy charged up the watch, hoping for the best. It took a charge, and it powered on. Turns out the watch wasn’t locked, so the Deputy was able to search for contacts and located contact information for family members. The watch belongs to a 12 year old, who saved up to purchase it. It was lost while swimming a few months ago and had not been replaced. The deputy returned the watch to the child’s parents, because the kid was in school at the time.
EMERGENCY CAR KIT
Fond du Lac County Director of Emergency Management John Ross says during this National Preparedness Month it is a good time to give some thought to a roadside emergency kit for your car. He says some items will come in handy no matter what time of year while others are more practical for the winter. Things like jumper cables, shovels, deicer, sand or kitty litter in case you got stuck on the ice. Other items that would be handy during the winter would include blankets, clothing, and extra gloves, flashlights, roadside emergency markers or flares. Water and a phone charger may also come in handy. Ross says make sure you have a good spare and the tools you need to change a tire in case you get a flat. During the winter you can check the Wisconsin 511 website, app or call 511 to check on winter road conditions before you go.
DIVERSE OPTIONS GOT TALENT
