8/20/24 Search Continues for Missing Kayaker

20 August 2024 News

The Green Lake County Sheriff’s office continues its search for a missing kayaker on Green Lake. Chief Deputy Matt Vande Kolk asks that the boating community be observant while on the water. If you see something in the water, take a moment to take a closer look. If you determine that it is floating trash, you are asked to remove it. It will keep the lake clean and expedite aerial searches. If you locate something of concern, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 911. Take a photo of GPS coordinates if you have GPS available. Meanwhile search efforts continue to use an aerial drone each morning weather permitting. The DNR and Bruce’s Legacy and Recovery are assisting with equipment best suited for deep water searching. Towable submersible sonar is being used as they search water deeper than 50 feet. So far, the kayak, a life jacket, a water bottle, a tackle box and a fishing rod belonging to the 44-year-old missing kayaker have been recovered. GPS data from apps on the person’s phone have guided the search location.
