INFORMATION NEEDED FOR DEER POACHING INVESTIGATION

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are investigating a large-scale deer poaching scheme that has been operating over the past 12 months. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says the range of the poaching covers approximately 200 square miles over Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Washington Counties. General boundaries of the area targeted by suspects fall within a perimeter outlined between Campbellsport, Waucosta, Lomira, Theresa, West Bend, and Kewaskum. Anyone with information related to the investigation is urged to contact law enforcement. Information could include hearing gunshots during overnight hours, observing a suspicious vehicle shining deer and shooting from a vehicle, and locating dead carcasses with bullet wounds on public or private land. Bucks would have the full head removed and does would be fully intact. LISTERIA OUTBREAK BOAR’S HEAD RECALL

There is new information about the Listeria outbreak linked to meats sliced at delis. Boar’s Head is recalling 200,000 pounds of lunch meat linked to the outbreak. Nine different products are impacted, including various types of bologna, ham, salami, and liverwurst. Thirty-four people in 13 states have gotten sick, including one person in Wisconsin. Two people have died. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it can take 3 to 4 weeks for someone who gets sick to be linked to the outbreak. WATER CONCERNS ON GREEN LAKE

The Green Lake County Public Health Department is cautioning the public about hazardous conditions at two boat launches on Green Lake. They tell us the Green Lake Sanitary District is reporting a very high reading for E.coli at Sunset Park Boat Launch. It is not a swimming area. Those launching their boats there should avoid getting water in their mouth and should rinse off upon exiting the water. Meanwhile there is a Blue Green Algae Bloom at County Highway K Marsh boat landing. The bloom tested positive for the microcystin toxin. The Green Lake Association is monitoring the bloom until they have a confirmed negative test.

KATRINA BAUR BOND REDUCTION REQUEST

Elijah Vue’s mother is asking a Manitowoc County judge to lower her bond from $15,000 cash. Katrina Baur is charged with child neglect and resisting or obstructing an officer. Her attorney Wednesday filed a motion asking that Baur’s bond be reduced to a signature bond or a maximum cash bond of $5,000. Baur will be back in court Monday for a scheduling conference in her case. The 31-year-old Wisconsin Dells woman’s son has been missing since February 20th. She left him in the care of 39-year-old Jesse Vang of Two Rivers who called 911 to report the 3-year-old boy missing. No one has been charged in connection with his disappearance. Vang is also facing criminal charges. A status conference is scheduled in his case for September 27th.

WASHINGTON COUNTY SUSPECT CHASE

It took the combined efforts of West Bend and Kewaskum Police, and Washington County Sheriff’s deputies to arrest a 21-year-old Milwaukee man who fled from a retail theft in West Bend Monday night. The man’s vehicle headed north on US Highway 45 about 11 pm that evening and took several different roads before crashing into a guardrail and coming to a stop in a yard on Edelweiss Lane in the Town of Barton. West Bend Police arrested a female passenger, but the driver fled on foot. Sheriff’s deputies used a drone to try and locate him. He apparently stopped at several homes trying to enter or attract the attention of the occupants. At 12:16 Tuesday morning a Kewaskum Police officer took the Milwaukee man into custody at Ridge Road and Kettleview Drive.

GREEN LAKE COUNTY FAIR GETS UNDERWAY

Green Lake County’s Fair gets underway at the fairgrounds in Green Lake today. This year’s theme is “Fiesta at the Fair” for the free fair. Animal judging gets underway. Green Lake County Fairest of the Fair Madison Mertens will show a couple of animals this year and says she’s always enjoyed showing animals at the fair. The Farm Bureau Pork Dinner is at 4 pm. The Midway opens at 5 pm. There is a truck and tractor pull at 6:30. The fair runs through Sunday. On Saturday Mertens hosts an event serving milk and cookies to kids from 3 to 4 pm in the Kids Zone Tent. Of course there will be plenty of food available throughout the fair. GREEN LAKE COUNTY SENIOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR

The Green Lake County Aging Unit will host its second Health and Wellness Fair Wednesday, September 11th at Town Square Community Center in Green Lake. The free event is from 10 am to 2 pm and is open to anyone. Over 30 different vendors will be participating and there will be four different presenters. Ryan Bamberg of the County’s Adult Protective Services says they would appreciate people registering if they plan to attend because they will be serving food. Refreshments will be available around lunch time. There will be presentations from Travel Wisconsin, Greg Karch an angler educator, and the Fond du Lac County Master Gardeners. Kristen Dorsch is also with the County’s Adult Protective Services. She says former Wisconsin Governor Martin Schreiber author of My Two Elaines: Learning Coping and Surviving as an Alzheimer’s Caregiver will also be a presenter. Shuttle service will be available that day from the Green Lake American Legion Parking Lot. Registration is available online or by calling 920-294-4070.

RIPON FIRST RESPONDER AND COMMUNITY FESTIVAL

The former National Night Out celebration in Ripon continues its rebranding. Police Officer Lindsey Michels says this year they will feature Police, Fire, and EMS vehicles and personnel but they are also teaming up with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The event will celebrate First Responders and the Community. It will be held at Barlow Park from 9 am to Noon on Saturday, September 14th. It will feature displays of equipment and the usual personnel and activities. Officer Michels says new this year they will also feature “touch a truck” which has become more popular at community events. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office will be bringing in some of their equipment as well. The National Guard is also expected to participate and may bring some of their equipment and activities.

DNR PARK AND FOREST STICKER DESIGN CONTEST WINNERS

A Rice Lake High School junior Evan Strand is the winner of the DNR’s 2025 Wisconsin State Park and Forest vehicle admission sticker design contest. His submission captured the essence of a night spent camping under the stars. His winning design will be printed on state park and forest vehicle admission stickers and will be displayed on more than 500,000 vehicles. The DNR received about 150 entries this year. The second-place winner is Jehiel Josh De los Santos, also of Rice Lake High School, and the third-place recipient is Joe Bellante of Catholic Central High School. Seven high school students from across the state received honorable mentions including Ella Devries of Ripon High School.

RHODE JOINS ENVISION GREATER FDL TEAM

Envision Greater Fond du Lac has hired Michael Rhode as their Membership Coordinator. In his role he will be responsible for a range of activities related to the business-to-business needs of the organization. He will work with members throughout the engagement cycle, including recruitment, engagement, and retention. Prior to joining the team at Envision, Mike held a number of roles within Grande Cheese, the most recent being Operations Manager in Lomira. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Supply Chain Management.
