RIPON COMMON COUNCIL BID AWARDS
The Ripon Common Council approved three separate contracts last night for tree removal, sidewalk removal and replacement, and sanitary sewer jetting and televising. The Council had previously approved a contract for $22,100 with Mirr of Green Lake for tree removal. They reconsidered the three bids because stump grinding was not included and one of the bidders did include that work. The Council was informed the stump grinding would actually be done through a separate contract at the end of the season. Mirr’s bid was approved again. The contract for sidewalk removal and replacement was awarded to Al Dix Concrete of Kaukauna for $29,105.48. It was one of three bids received. Two bids were received for the sanitary sewer jetting and televising work. They were from Speedy Clean of Menasha and Aqualis formerly Northern Pipeline. Aqualis had the lower bid at $39,000 and was awarded the bid to clean and televise 52,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer. The televising is to make sure there aren’t any obstructions in the sanitary sewer line.
AVIAN INFLUENZA TESTING REQUIREMENT FOR CATTLE
Avian Influenza in cattle hasn’t been detected in Wisconsin yet, but the state has been preparing for the possibility that it might hit dairy farms. The state veterinarian has been complying with federal orders requiring testing of any cattle that will be exhibited at fairs this season. They must be tested within seven days of the event. The virus has been detected in several states and in dairy cattle causes decreased milk production, reduced appetite, and other symptoms. State Senator Joan Ballweg says after a teleconference with Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection Secretary Randy Romanski her office notified all fairs within the 14th State Senate District about the testing requirement. A mutated version of the virus has been passed along to some humans handling cows and cattle. Ballweg says symptoms in a human are mild, but still a concern. More information about the Avian Influenza is available at DATCP’s website.
