A Horicon man is killed in a motorcycle versus deer accident in Columbia County. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a motorcycle crash with a deer on Highway 33 at Saddle Ridge in the Town of Pacific, and that the motorcycle operator was unconscious and seriously injured. The Sheriff’s Office says the operator, now identified as Anton Salaks Sr. of Horicon, was transported by Med Flight from the scene to UW Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The accident happened Monday afternoon.

A Brandon man convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child is going to prison. Fond du Lac judge Dale English has sentenced 69 year old Stewart Fraser to nine years in prison followed by four years of extended supervision. Fraser was convicted of first degree sexual assault of a child. Two other counts were dismissed and read into the record.

An Appleton woman is convicted of fatally stabbing her husband more than four years ago. A jury in Outagamie County returned a guilty verdict for 39-year-old Mastella Jackson Wednesday night. The defense had argued there was no testimony identifying Jackson as the person who killed Derrick Whitlow at a Grand Chute motel in February of 2012. The verdict follows a ruling by the state Supreme Court which upheld an appeals decision to reinstate some physical evidence in the case. An Outagamie County judge in 2014 ruled that police violated Jackson’s right while questioning her. Judge Mark McGinnis suppressed those statements and some physical evidence found as a result of those statements.

Two people are injured following a two vehicle accident in Brown County. The accident happened Wednesday evening around 6:30pm on I-41 southbound at Main street near De Pere. Investigation shows the driver of a Chevy Cruze, 33-year-old Kimberly Gross of Green Bay, lost control of her vehicle, spun out and came to rest on the I-41 southbound ramp. Another vehicle that entered the main street ramp to merge on 41 southbound struck the rear end of Gross’s vehicle. Gross and the driver of the other vehicle, 60-year-old Mary Ahrdnt of De Pere, were transported to St. Vincent Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Gross was arrested for Operating while Under the Influence second offense causing injury in connection to the crash.

Masonite International Corp. notifies the city of Algoma that it will close its architectural door and mineral core manufacturing plant next year. About 180 employees will lose their jobs beginning in mid-January. The Algoma Hardwoods plant will shut down at the end of August. Masonite officials say it’s closing the plant because the work can be done at other locations. City Administrator Jeff Wiswell says the announcement has been devastating for employees who are concerned about their families and future. He says he’s hopeful other employers will absorb the workers. Bay Area Workforce Development Board executive director Jim Golembeski says the job market is healthy and that displaced workers from The Manitowoc Co. and Brillion Iron Works have had luck finding new employment.
