Columbus Police have a man in custody suspected of shooting and killing another man early this morning in the city. While downtown an officer heard what he believed to be fireworks going off at 1:31 am. He found a man who had suffered gunshot wounds. Life saving measures were attempted but the victim was pronounced dead a short time later at Prairie Ridge Health Center. During the subsequent investigation various video camera footage was reviewed and a suspect was identified. He was taken into custody at 1:54 pm in the City of Madison. A firearm was located along the path where the suspect fled on foot. Police will hold a press conference at 10 am Friday morning at the Columbus City Hall to release more details about the shooting investigation.
