Nick Castellanos won the game with an RBI double in the 10th inning after Alec Bohm tied the score with a solo homer in the eighth to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 on Tuesday night.
After Bryson Stott was intentionally walked, Castellanos lined a double to right off Brewers reliever Joel Payamps (1-2) that scored automatic runner Whit Merrifield and sent the Phillies to their fourth walk-off win of the season.
The Phillies mobbed Castellanos at second base as another packed crowd went wild in celebration of the team’s 43rd win, tops in the National League.
Seranthony Domínguez (2-2) tossed a scoreless 10th for the win.
Bohm opened the eighth inning with a shot off Brewers reliever Elvis Peguero that tied the game 1-all and wasted a fantastic effort by Milwaukee’s bullpen.
Realmuto bailed out the Phillies when he took a perfect throw from Stott and tagged out a hard charging Oliver Dunn in the 10th
Hoskins tipped his helmet in appreciation of a standing ovation in his first at-bat for the second straight night in his return to Philadelphia. By the ninth, Hoskins was soundly booed by the Philly faithful when he hit against reliever Matt Strahm with one out and runners on the corners. The crowd erupted in cheers when Hoskins struck out.
Strahm got Gary Sánchez to fly out and end the inning.
Phillies starter Cristopher Sánchez struck out three and allowed one run over six innings.
Blake Perkins opened the third inning with a double and scored on Andruw Monasterio’s groundout for the 1-0 lead.
Brewers reliever Bryan Hudson struck out Realmuto and retired Bryce Harper on a lazy flyball in the seventh inning to leave the tying run stranded. Hudson also struck out Cristian Pache and retired Edmundo Sosa on a flyball in the sixth to end the threat.
Brewers starter Jared Koenig lasted 1 1/3 innings after he threw just five pitches in a scoreless first inning on Monday and became just the fourth MLB pitcher since 1969 to start consecutive games more than once in a season. It happened twice in the 1970s and Ryne Stanek did it for Tampa Bay in 2019.
The Brewers did not name a starter for Wednesday’s series finale. The Phillies send RHP Aaron Nola (7-2, 3.03 ERA) to the mound. First pitch is at 3:05.
Elsewhere in the NL Central Tuesday the Cubs edged the White Sox 7-6, the Pirates shutout the Dodgers 1-0, the Astros over the Cardinals 8-5 and the Reds beat the Rockies 4-1. The Brewers lead the Cubs by 6 games, the Cardinals by 7, the Pirates 7 ½ and the Reds are 8 games out.
In the Midwest League Tuesday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won at home over Quad Cities 9-5. They play again this afternoon with the first pitch at 12:05 at Fox Cities Stadium.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst confirming that talks between the team and quarterback Jordan Love’s camp about a contract extension continue. Meanwhile the QB is on the field for the third week of voluntary OTA practices.
Love is currently entering the final year of his contract after agreeing to a one year extension last offseason. That deal will pay Love $11 million dollars this upcoming season, which is well below the nearly four year, $200 million dollar extension cap experts believe he’ll sign.
The second year starting QB is also participating in the team’s voluntary practices to continue building on the steps the offense took late last season.
It’s nearly perfect attendance for the third OTA open to the media with Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, and Elgton Jenkins all returning to practice. Running back Josh Jacobs also participating in team periods as he continues to work through a hamstring issue that limited him early in OTAs.
Running back Christian McCaffrey, the NFL’s reigning Offensive Player of the Year, has reset the running back market for the second time in about four years, signing a two-year contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Niners announced the deal (but did not disclose financial terms) on Tuesday afternoon, not long after sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the deal — which averages $19 million over the two added years — was done.
In addition to the two extra years (2026 and 2027), the Niners added $8 million over what McCaffrey was scheduled to make in 2024 and 2025 while adding $24 million in guarantees, the sources told Schefter. WME negotiated the contract, which follows the 2020 pact he signed with the Carolina Panthers which also set a record for running back compensation.

Athletics right-handed pitcher Michael Kelly received a one-year suspension, as did Minor Leaguers Jay Groome (Padres left-handed pitcher), José Rodríguez (Phillies infielder) and Andrew Saalfrank (D-backs left-handed pitcher). The five players were disciplined for unrelated violations of the league’s gambling policy following investigations by MLB’s Department of Investigations.
