The Green Bay Packers have reported another year of record revenue. Total revenue rose 8 percent in the past year to nearly $409 million in 2016. It’s the 13th straight year with a new high for one of the NFL’s marquee teams. Revenue from national sources rose 6 percent to more than $222 million. It was outpaced by the nearly 11 percent growth in local revenue to $186 million. Overall, the publicly owned Packers are ninth in the league again in total revenue. Even an atypical season without a home playoff game didn’t hurt too much. The Packers hit the road for the postseason in 2015 after a four-year streak of winning the NFC Central ended. The difference in revenue between a road and home playoff game is only about $1.5 million
A 7-year-old boy is being called a hero after he pulled his younger siblings out of a house fire. The Rhinelander Fire Department honored Adam Granger during a ceremony Friday. Police say Adam noticed flames in his house on Tuesday, so he grabbed his infant sister and 4-year-old brother and got them outside. The children’s father was in the yard at the time. Fire officials say the blaze might have started when one of the kids tried to cook on the stove. The family lost many belongings, but everyone is safe. Adam’s mother, Jenny Schroeder, says Adam just wanted to save his sister’s life. Fire officials gave Adam a plaque, fishing gear and some toys.
Prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her mother and injuring a third person in the Green Bay area. Jacob Cayer of Ashwaubenon was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide. Cayer also is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, burglary and bail jumping. Cayer’s ex-girlfriend, 25-year-old Sabrina Teague, was found stabbed June 7 outside her home in Hobart. Her 63-year-old mother, Heesun “Sunny” Teague, was found dead in a bathroom in the house. Cayer continues to be held on $5 million bond. A competency hearing is scheduled for today.
