One person is killed in a two vehicle crash in Dodge County. The crash happened shortly before 11am Wednesday on Cth P at the intersection with Cth O, in the Township of Ashippun. A preliminary investigation shows that an eastbound car on Highway O failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway P, striking an SUV. The driver of the SUV, a 74-year-old Ixonia man, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, a 16-year-old Richfield boy, and passenger of the car, a 15-year-old Hartford girl, received non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the SUV, a 72-year-old Ixonia woman, also received non-life threatening injuries. The three were transported to the hospital. The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team.

Two high risk sex offenders won’t be placed at a town of Lomira residence after all. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says his office was notified Wednesday afternoon that the placement of Robert Larson and Jonathan Miller at W462 Highway 67 in the Town of Lomira will no longer be occurring. Schmidt says he received an email from the Department of Health Services indicating that the sale of the residence had fallen through, meaning that both subjects will remain housed at Sandridge Secure Detention Facility in Mauston pending the search for a new location.

Fond du Lac police say they’ve identified persons of interest in a suspicious incident involving an 11-year-old girl. Police did not release any names, but say they are no longer looking for the teens or a white minivan involved in the incident. Officers say a tip helped lead them to the subjects. A police news release did not mention arrests or possible charges. According to police, around 11:30am Wednesday, an 11-year-old girl was walking in the area of Willsher Drive and Wakefield Avenue. A white minivan pulled up to her, and one of three teens in the van opened the sliding door and offered her candy. The girl ran away to the nearest home, and people there helped her call police. The Police Department says the investigation is ongoing.

A legislator says University of Wisconsin System regents are set to approve a budget that will raise student fees an average of $45. The regents are set to vote on the 2016-17 budget during a meeting Thursday. They have not released the spending plan, but Julie Laundrie, an aide to state Sen. Jon Erpenbach, said Wednesday that their office learned through a conversation with system State Relations Director Jeff Buhrandt the budget will include the higher fees. System spokesman Alex Hummel said system officials are still finalizing the budget but Erpenbach’s office has the fee increase wrong. He didn’t immediately respond when asked for a correct figure. The regents are expected to vote today on raising student application fees and seeking more money for student aid.

A proposed plea deal is delayed for a former suburban Milwaukee police officer charged with ditching the bodies of two women he’s accused of killing in suitcases along a rural Wisconsin highway. The Wisconsin case against Steven Zelich was expected to wrap up Wednesday when he was to enter a plea and be sentenced on two counts of hiding a corpse in Walworth County. But Judge David Reddy said he was concerned that things were happening too quickly after the initial plea agreement was changed just before the hearing. Zelich’s attorney agreed to set the case for trial to have more time to talk to his client. The jury trial is set for Oct. 3. The 54-year-old Zelich has already been sentenced to 35 years in prison in the 2012 death of 19-year-old Jenny Gamez, of Cottage Grove, Oregon. Authorities are hoping to extradite him to Minnesota, where he’s charged in the death of the other victim.

Milwaukee County sheriff’s officials say no criminal charges will be filed in the death of a mother who was shot by her 2-year-old son as she drove along a Milwaukee freeway. Relatives say Patrice Price was driving her boyfriend’s car April 26 when his loaded handgun slid from under the driver’s seat and he toddler, who was riding in the back seat, picked it up. Authorities say the boy was able to fire the gun, striking his 26-year-old mother in the back. The woman’s mother was in the front seat, with Price’s 1-year-old son. Family members say the older woman maneuvered the car to the side of the highway. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Fran McLaughlin said Thursday that investigators found nothing illegal about the gun that belonged to Price’s boyfriend.
