Willy Adames homered twice with four RBIs and Colin Rea pitched six scoreless innings to lead the Milwaukee Brewers over the Tampa Bay Rays 7-1 on Wednesday in the finale of a contentious three-game series.

Milwaukee reliever Abner Uribe was suspended for six games and starter Freddy Peralta for five by Major League Baseball for their roles in a brawl on Tuesday night. Rays outfielder Jose Siri was suspended for three games, and Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy for two. All four also were fined.

Murphy started his suspension on Wednesday, leaving associate manager Rickie Weeks to lead the team. Siri’s suspension was cut to two games as part of an agreement, and he served the first game Wednesday. Uribe and Peralta can continue to play until their appeals are resolved.

Playing against his former team, Adames hit a solo homer in the third off Zach Eflin (1-4) and a three-run drive in the seventh against Erasmo Ramírez for his fifth big league two-homer game.

Rea (3-0) gave up four hits over six innings with two walks and six strikeouts in a 99-pitch outing – his highest pitch count since July 25, 2016, for San Diego at Toronto.

Bryan Hudson, Uribe and Thyago Vieira finished a five-hitter, and the Brewers took two of three from the Rays.

William Contreras hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the third off Elfin, who allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. Eflin is 0-3 in his last five starts.

Tampa Bay went 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position and left nine guys on base.

Brewers RHP Joe Ross (1-3, 5.40) starts Friday at the Chicago Cubs, who send RHP Hayden Wesneski (2-0, 0.87) to the mound.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Wednesday, the Cubs shutout the Mets 1-0, the Tigers beat the Cardinals 4-1, the A’s blanked the Pirates 4-0 and the Padres downed the Reds 6-2. The Brewers remain a half-game ahead of the Cubs in the division while the Reds are 3 ½ out, the Cardinals 5 ½ behind and the Pirates are 6 games back.

In the Midwest League Wednesday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost 9-8 to the Great Lakes Lions at Fox Cities Stadium. The teams play again tonight with the first pitch at 6:40.

Milwaukee reliever Abner Uribe was suspended for six games and starter Freddy Peralta for five on Wednesday for their roles in a brawl during a Brewers’ game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rays outfielder Jose Siri was suspended for three games and Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy for two by Mike Hill, Major League Baseball’s senior vice president for on-field operations. All four also were fined.

Murphy started his suspension on Wednesday, when associate manager Rickie Weeks led the team against the Rays.  Murphy had been ejected from each of the Brewers’ previous two games. He was tossed from a 1-0 loss to Tampa Bay on Monday after arguing with a decision that kept the Brewers from scoring a tying run in the ninth inning.

Milwaukee said Uribe and Peralta planned to appeal. If a player appeals to MLB special assistant John McHale Jr., discipline remains pending until the appeal is resolved.

MLB cited Peralta for intentionally throwing at Siri and Murphy for Peralta’s actions plus “inappropriate conduct towards umpires.” Uribe was disciplined for causing a benches-clearing incident and Siri for his actions during the incident.

Siri stressed on Wednesday he has no dispute with Peralta. Siri said celebrations by pitchers and batters alike are part of the game but insisted that he wasn’t trying to show up Peralta.

The Bucks are back on the court tonight against the Pacers. Milwaukee still trails Indiana 3-2 in the best of seven-game series in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Bucks stayed alive Tuesday at home with a 115-92 victory behind Bobby Portis Jr., and Khris Middleton, who each poured in 29 points. Malik Beasley added 18 points and Pat Beverley had 13 points and 12 assists, Tyrese Haliburton scored 16 points to lead the Pacers. Myles Turner added 13. Obi Toppin, Aaron Nembhard and Pascal Siakam had 12 each.

The status for Giannis Anttetokounmpo and Damian Lillard is still unknown but Coach Doc Rivers said Tuesday night he thought the two were “very, very, very close” to making it back on the court with the possibility of a second straight first-round exit looming. There is a chance at least one of the could play. If the Bucks win, there would be a seventh and deciding game in Milwaukee on Saturday.

In the NBA Eastern Conference, the Celtics won at home over Miami 118-84 to take their series 4-1 while in the Western Conference, Dallas won at Los Angeles over the Clippers 123-93. The Clippers still lead in that series 3-2.
