Fire damaged a home in Fond du Lac late Saturday morning. Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 339 East Division Street just before 11 am. When crews arrived, heavy fire was showing from a basement window of the two-story single-family home. Residents were able to safely escape from the residence, but firefighters had to rescue three dogs. No one was injured. The blaze caused extensive damage to the basement and first floor of the home. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief James Wamser says the age of the home, type of building construction, and high winds aided the fire in spreading quickly from the basement to the first floor. The cause of the fire is being determined.
