4/28/24 SSM Health Supports Earth Friendly Activity in Ripon
28 April 2024 News
SSM Health has a long-standing commitment to preserving the earth and its resources and nurturing healthy communities as part of its Mission.
As part of an SSM Health systemwide effort in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day, SSM Health team members have planted four new trees in some of our wonderful Wisconsin parks, including two Minnesota Red Bud trees at Murray Park in Ripon.
SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital staff coordinated with the City of Ripon to enhance a local park by planting trees on Arbor Day. Several SSM Health Wisconsin Region and Ripon Community Hospital leaders were onsite to participate in the Murray Park planting.
“As a faith-based Catholic health system, we are committed to the Franciscan principle of Caring for Creation and our value of stewardship that drives our work to protect our planet and responsibly use all of our resources, including natural ones,” according to Rosie Perez, SSM Health – Wisconsin Mission Integration regional vice president. “I am also a proud Wisconsinite, knowing that our Senator Gaylord Nelson focused the nation’s attention on conserving our environment with the first Earth Day in 1970.”
Nicole Gill, SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital/SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital vice president, clinical administrator, was also on hand for the planting. “We show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation. Care for the earth is not just an Earth Day or Arbor Day slogan, it is a requirement of our faith. We are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationship with all of God’s creation. We are so grateful to continue this tradition by adding to the park’s beauty.”
