TEXT TO 911 NOW AVAILABLE IN WAUPACA COUNTY

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday announced they have begun accepting Text to 911 service. County residents can now send a text to 911 in an emergency. Text to 911 should only be used in an emergency situation, when placing a call is not possible. For instance, if the caller is deaf, hard-of-hearing, speech impaired or when speaking out loud would put the caller in danger. Sheriff’s officials ask that in the first text message a location and type of emergency be sent. They also ask that the text be put in simple words and that the message be short and without abbreviations or slang. Also be prepared to answer questions and follow instructions from the 911 call taker.

SENATOR JOHNSON ON MAYORKAS IMPEACHMENT ATTEMPT

The Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate Wednesday voted down both articles of impeachment brought against Homeland Security Secretary Alejando Mayorkas by House Republicans. GOP Senator Ron Johnson felt House managers put together a very convincing case against Mayorkas. Senator Johnson is a member of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. He believes President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas’ open border policy at our southern border puts Americans at risk and is a crime. Johnson says when President Trump left office the number of illegal immigrants crossing that border was around 500 a month, but since then more than 6 million have crossed our borders illegally. The federal lawmaker from Oshkosh says main stream media wasn’t paying much attention to the crisis until mayors in New York and Chicago started complaining about how the flood of illegal immigrants were taxing their cities’ resources.  Critics of the impeachment attempt believed it was a waste of time that should have been used for a compromise on the border crisis.

The Celebrate Ripon dinner will borrow its theme from the Ripon Street Fair. She says the dinner will include live entertainment, a silent auction, old photos celebrating Ripon, and more. Proceeds will go toward Chamber programs and events.  For more information about the Celebrate Ripon dinner visit the Chamber’s website or call 920-748-6764.
