On March 19th, the Fond du Lac County Board voted unanimously to transfer oversight of the Fond du Lac County Communications Center to the Sheriff’s Office, and on March 25th, the Fond du Lac County Communication Service Administrative Review Board unanimously recommended sheriff’s lieutenant Eric Halbach to lead the county-wide communications center.

We are honored to announce lieutenant Eric Halbach has been promoted to captain of administration and will serve as division commander of the sheriff’s office communications center. Lieutenant Brennan Wagner will transfer to the communications division as second in command.

Captain Halbach (pictured above) started his career with the sheriff’s office in November of 2001 as a correctional deputy. Halbach was promoted to patrol deputy in October of 2002, and in 2013, Halbach was promoted to sergeant and held that position until his promotion to patrol lieutenant in August of 2018.

Captain Halbach currently serves as the sheriff’s office peer support team coordinator, chair of the Fond du Lac County traffic safety commission, co-coordinator of the Fond du Lac County child abduction response team and a member of the five-county critical incident stress management team. He also serves as a board member on the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Executive Development Association and is a past board member of the Midwest Public Safety Divers Association and Wisconsin Civil Process Conference. Captain Halbach is an instructor in emergency vehicle operations and vehicle contacts, the current dive team coordinator, and former member of the crash reconstruction team. Halbach holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh.

Lt. Brennan Wagner (pictured above) began his career in law enforcement in 2008 while attending UW-Milwaukee. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2011 with focuses in computer science and sociology. Lt. Wagner attended the Law Enforcement Academy at Waukesha County Technical College in 2011.

Lt. Wagner is a Fond du Lac native and began his career with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office in 2013. During this time, he served as a patrol deputy, field training officer and crisis intervention officer on all three shifts. He was promoted to patrol sergeant in November of 2019, and served on both first and second shift. In February of 2023, he was promoted to lieutenant of technology, overseeing large projects involving the dispatch center, radio system, CAD/RMS, and body worn/squad cameras.

Lt. Wagner currently serves on the SWAT team as the crisis negotiation team coordinator. Additionally, he serves as the assistant team coordinator of the drone and mobile field force teams and is a member of the sheriff’s office honor guard.
