3/23/24 Pianist Returns to Ripon College

RIPON — Versatile pianist Ian Moschenross will return to Ripon College for a guest piano recital Monday, April 8. The program will begin at 7 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. It is free and open to the public.

Earlier that day, Moschenross will give a presentation for the “Western Music History 1750-1900” class of Assistant Professor of Music Tobin Shucha.

Moschenross previously performed at Ripon College as part of the Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon series in 2021. His upcoming program will include “Bagatelles,” op. 126, by Ludwig van Beethoven; “Vier Klavierstücke,” Op. 119, by Johannes Brahms; and Sonata in B-flat Major, D. 960, by Franz Schubert.

Moschenross is an active recitalist, chamber musician and collaborator, with a particular scholarly focus on the works of the Romantic era. He is an active soloist and collaborator, regularly conducts masterclasses and adjudicates festivals and competitions.

He has taught applied and group piano, music theory and history courses at Monmouth College (Illinois), Grinnell College (Iowa) and Central College (Iowa), and currently teaches music theory, music history and piano courses at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.

His research interests include the life and works of Robert Schumann, non-equal temperament tuning systems, and the literary intertextuality of Bob Dylan lyrics.

Moschenross earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Hanover College and a master of music and doctor of musical arts in piano performance from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
