3/15/24 Denise Martinez Running for Ripon School Board
15 March 2024 News
After being appointed to the Ripon School Board a year ago to fill an unexpired term of a member that left the board, Denise Martinez is hoping to be elected to the board for a full term. She previously served a three-year term on the board from 2009 to 2012. She has a background in education having worked at both Ripon College and Moraine Park Technical College. She believes the school district is doing a good job of preparing students for college or the world of work. She says they also do a good job with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math or STEM courses. She says her grandson who is nearly 11 years old may not understand he is involved in STEM courses but is benefitting from them. Martinez has a counseling degree, so she also appreciates an increasing focus on mental health and social/emotional learning. She also feels the district’s relationship with the city particularly through the school liaison officer program is helping children build trust and respect. On her way home one night she saw a police officer stop to play some basketball with kids. Martinez is one of five candidates running for four seats on the Ripon School Board during the April 2nd election.
