CAMPBELLSPORT WOMAN INJURED IN ROLLOVER CRASH
Shortly before nine o’clock last night a single vehicle rollover crash was reported to the Fond du Lac County Communications Center. The 911 caller reported a passenger car was on its side in the roadway near the intersection of County Highway W and County Highway BB in the Town of Ashford. When emergency personnel arrived they discovered the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was trapped inside. A 39-year-old Campbellsport woman was safely extricated from the vehicle. A Flight for Life helicopter flew her to Froedtert Hospital with serious injuries. Investigators say the vehicle was traveling north on County Highway BB as it approached County Highway W. The driver left the roadway prior to the curve, traveling into a ditch and struck a culvert. The vehicle went airborne before rolling several times. It came to rest in the roadway. Failure to maintain control and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. The woman was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated – first offense.
ELIJAH VUE SEARCH ENTERS FOURTH WEEK
The search for 3-year-old Elijah Vue is entering a fourth week. He disappeared from the Two Rivers area while under the care of his mother’s boyfriend Jesse Vang last month. Two Rivers Police say the reward for information leading to his location or those responsible for his disappearance is now at $40,000. Donations for the reward can be made in person at the Two Rivers Police Department or by mail to Manitowoc County Crime Stoppers, 1025 9th Street, Manitowoc, Wisconsin 54220. Communities across the area have chipped in with volunteers searching from Manitowoc to Appleton, Fond du Lac to the Wisconsin Dells. Vue was reported missing on February 20th. Vue’s mother Katrina Baur and Vang are both facing child neglect charges in connection with his disappearance.
WILDFIRE DANGER
The state’s Department of Natural Resources is asking the public to avoid burning this week due to elevated fire danger throughout the state. Although parts of the state are predicted to see rain today, the precipitation is expected to miss the northern part of Wisconsin. On windy, dry days, embers from any fire, especially burn piles and campfires, can easily escape control and cause a wildfire if not properly extinguished. The DNR has already responded to over 50 wildfires across Wisconsin this week alone, bringing the yearly total to 193 fires burning 356 acres. The DNR had only responded to seven wildfires across Wisconsin at this point last year. The majority of recent wildfires have been related to debris burning.
RIPON COMMON COUNCIL NOTES
The Ripon Common Council last night approved an additional allocation for the Sandmar Lot Sale program. The Council had originally allocated money for the sale of four lots for housing development in Sandmar this year. City Administrator Adam Sonntag told the Council the city had gotten a request from a fifth developer. The Council approved the allocation. Money for the program comes out of closed Tax Incremental Districts. In other business the Council approved the termination of TID District 5 which was originally created in September of 2000. The Council also approved paying Safe Step LLC $40,000 for the 2024 sidewalk repair program. They also approved paying bills submitted for the Water Department’s Chemical Feed Project and the State Street Reconstruction Project.
THEDACARE UPDATES ISOLATION AND MASKING POLICIES
ThedaCare is updating its isolation and masking guidelines at all its facilities. Guidelines for visiting a patient in isolation, including those being treated for COVID-19 include a limit of two visitors at the same time. Visitors should go directly to the patient’s room and remain in the room during the visit, except to use the public restroom. For everyone’s safety, visitors should wear personal protective equipment including masks and follow all instructions provided. Masking continues to be optional for patients, visitors and staff, except if you have fever, sore throat, runny nose or cough. If you choose, you are welcome to continue to wear a mask if symptom free and request that your care team also remain masked while caring for you. Some areas, such as cancer care units, may have their own masking policies. ThedaCare would ask that you follow any unit-specific policies regarding masking.
STATE SENATOR FEYEN ON WORKFORCE RELATED BILLS
State Senator Dan Feyen is pleased the State Senate passed a bill on a bipartisan vote that will do something about child care and workforce housing. The state lawmaker from Fond du Lac chairs the Senate’s Committee on Economic Development and Technical Colleges. As such one of his main focuses has been workforce challenges. He says the bill passed yesterday will refocus the Business Development Tax Credit on capital expenditures, adding a 15 percent credit on businesses’ investment into workforce housing or a childcare facility. He says two more bills voted on Tuesday will help expand opportunity and spur investment into the State’s startup community. Feyen says startups are the number one creator of new jobs and anything they can do to help grow innovation in Wisconsin is good for the State’s economy.
SPRING BRINGS STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR THE RIPON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT
Strategic planning is on the must-do list for the Ripon Area School District. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says it is something they do each spring. It begins with results from staff and parent satisfaction surveys where they look for ways to improve and better serve the community. She says all stakeholders are involved in the strategic planning. That includes parents, students, staff, and community leaders who get involved in talking about how to accomplish what they need to do. Whitrock says one of the things they learned from the parent surveys is there is a desire to have consistency across the schools as students transferred from one building to the next so parents can stay informed and engaged. She says the school board has given them six strategic objectives to keep in mind as they work on strategic planning.
FAKE BUSINESS NOTICES AND FORMS
The Administrator for the State’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection cautions small business owners not to fall for fake notices and letters from scammers. Michelle Reinen says scammers send them out from fake agencies using words like ‘United States,” “business regulation, and ‘trademark’ to make them seem legitimate. They lie that it’s time to register or renew a business license or trademark, and send you to a website. The website asks for your license, Social Security, EIN (Employment Identification Number), and credit card numbers. If you get a letter that looks like it’s from the government and demands money or information verify it before doing anything. Reinen recommends going to USA.gov to verify the names and contact information of federal, state, and local government agencies. Don’t use any websites or phone numbers listed in the letter. The government will never ask you to wire money with services like Western Union or MoneyGram, or pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, or a payment app.
LITTLE WHITE SCHOOLHOUSE CELEBRATION
The Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce will host a celebration of the “Birthplace of the Republican Party” in Ripon Saturday. It will be held at the Little White Schoolhouse on West Fond du Lac. The Little White Schoolhouse is where the GOP was founded 170 years ago. It’s now located on West Fond du Lac Street at the site of the former Marine Credit Union. The celebration is from 11 am to 3 pm. Chamber Executive Director Mandy Kimes says at 1 pm she will make some remarks and a descendant of one of the founders of the Republican Party will be on hand as well. She says one of the cakes they will be using at the celebration will be fashioned after the Little White Schoolhouse. Technical Education students at the High School are also building a replica of the Little White Schoolhouse that the Chamber can use in parades.

She says it isn’t just about a meal-it’s an investment in the arts, in the community, and in the future of the Thrasher Opera House.
BREAKFAST ON THE FARM ANNOUNCED
Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Agri-Business Council will host the 35th annual Breakfast on the Farm during National Dairy Month on Sunday June 23rd. It will be from 8 am to 12 pm at Abel Dairy Farms, LLC at W4050 County Road UU in Eden. Attendees will enjoy a farm fresh breakfast and family-friendly farm experiences, while celebrating Fond du Lac County’s strong agriculture industry. More information will be available soon.
