High Speed Chase In The Town Of Rosendale
A 30-year-old Wausau man was arrested after a five mile high speed chase on State Highway 23 in Fond du Lac County Saturday evening. A Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the man near County Highway KK in the Town of Rosendale for speeding, but he ignored the deputies signals and continued to travel at up to 110 miles an hour. He drove recklessly and passed multiple vehicles as he continued west on Highway 23. Eventually he stopped and was taken into custody. He was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, fleeing an officer and was cited for possessing open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. No one was injured during the chase and on property was damaged.
Hunter Gets Lost In The Eldorado Marsh
A 50-year-old hunter got lost in the Eldorado Marsh Saturday night. The hunter called 911 shortly before 7:30. Fond du Lac County Communications Center used GPS to pinpoint his location, which was about a third of a mile from the dead end of Hageman Road. Sheriff’s deputies were able to reach him by phone and located him north of the Mascoutin Trail and east of the dead end. He had no means of navigation to help him find his way out. Sheriff’s officials remind hunters to always know the environment they plan to travel into. They also urge have the proper safety, emergency, and survival gear.
Self-Inflicted Shooting In Oshkosh
Oshkosh Police say a man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a back yard of a residence in the 2100 block of Wisconsin Street Friday afternoon. Officers responded to the scene after getting a request to check on the welfare of a man with a gun. As they arrived they heard a gunshot and found him in the back yard. No one else was injured. Oshkosh North High School officials were informed of the situation, which was quickly resolved and there was no lockdown at the school.
Names Released In Fatal Winnebago County Accident
Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials have released the names of the two people killed in an accident in the Town of Vinland Tuesday. Seventy-eight-year-old Deneise Roycroft-Hartman was driving a car that collided with a large commercial truck at the intersection of State Highway 76 and County Road GG. She died at the scene and her passenger 88-year-old Mavis Wolff died later at a local hospital. The truck driver suffered non-life- threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The two highways were shut down for about 5 1/2 hours while deputies investigated the accident.
Oshkosh Lottery Winner Comes Forward
Karen Simmons of Oshkosh is the lucky winner of the $62,000 jackpot from the last Wednesday’s Badger 5 drawing. She purchased the winning ticket at the Citgo at 834 North Main Street in Oshkosh. Winners at all prize levels have 180 days from the drawing to claim their prizes by mail or in person at the Lottery’s Madison or Milwaukee office.
Area Counties Getting Flood Relief
Governor Scott Walker and the Public Service Commission Friday announced $1 million in new flood relief for Wisconsinites that were impacted by the recent heavy rains and flooding across the state. The 18 counties being assessed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency include Adams, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Iron, Jefferson, Juneau, La Crosse, Marquette, Monroe, Ozaukee, Richland, Sauk, Vernon, and Washington. Walker says, “This summer’s severe rainfall and flooding affected people in local communities across the state.” He says the additional funding will help families and small businesses get back on their feet.
Avoid Door To Door Repairmen
An official with the State’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says if you plan on getting some home repairs done because of flood or tornado damage make sure who you are dealing with. Michelle Reinen is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. She says most people want to get the repairs done as quickly as possible to get back to normal. But she urges taking a little time to research your contractor and don’t deal with someone doing door-to-door solicitations. She says, “Don’t let that scam artist that comes knocking on the door entice you into a decision that may cause trouble for you down the road.” She also recommends getting a contract in writing and avoid paying cash up front. She says if you are being scammed those repairs may hold up a couple of months before they begin giving you problems.
Kavanaugh Hearing Reaction
A former Politics and Government professor at Ripon College says the testimony of Christine Blasey Ford before the US Senate Judiciary Committee and reaction of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was telling. Marty Farrell says he doesn’t know whether Ford was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh 36 years ago, but her testimony was sincere and heartfelt while Kavanaugh’s response, which included accusations of a conspiracy against him did not show the type of temperament a Supreme Court justice should display. He says, “The amount of anger shown by him as well as this partisanship raises questions about judicial temperament and of course what he had said earlier was he would be non-partisan, he would be even-handed.” The latest development in the confirmation process includes a limited probe into Kavanaugh by the FBI.
Former Judge Arraigned
A Fox Crossing Municipal Judge has pleaded not guilty to charges that he stalked his clerk. Sixty-five-year-old Leonard Kachinsky recently entered the plea when he was arraigned in Winnebago County court. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has suspended him from the bench. According to the criminal complaint Kachisky’s court clerk claims he’s been harassing her since April of 2017. He is charged with felony stalking and two misdemeanor counts of violating a restraining order. He will be back in court October 18th.
Ripon Wine Walk
Ripon’s popular Wine Walk returns on Friday, November 2nd. It will be from 5:30 to 8:30 that evening. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says over twenty businesses will be participating. He says, “So there are 22 businesses that are participating in Downtown Ripon and that is 44 different wines that will be available for sample.” Tickets can be redeemed the day of the event after 1 pm at the Chamber for what you need for the walk including a wine glass and a badge which is good for up to 20 one ounce samples of wine. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 the day of the event, but may be sold out before that.
