SLOW OPENING WEEKEND FOR STURGEON SPEARERS

It was a slow start for the opening weekend of the 2024 sturgeon spearing season on the Lake Winnebago System with the preseason thaw keeping many off the ice. Day two on Sunday saw a total of 49 lake sturgeon speared. Most of the harvest came from the western areas of Lake Winnebago. Additionally, more spearers were taking to the Upriver Lakes to try their luck. After the opening weekend, 122 lake sturgeon have been speared throughout the Winnebago system.  The biggest fish of the day was taken by Jacob Disterhaft. It was a female that measured 71.2 inches in length and weighed 110.7 pounds. The DNR says until ice conditions improve around Lake Winnebago, they are closing the Stockbridge, Quinney and Neenah registration stations. The North Winnebago, Downtown Oshkosh, Southwest Winnebago and Pipe registration stations will remain open for those heading out today, as will all Upriver registration stations. PELVIC THERAPY

A physical therapist with SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital says physical therapy can help men who have undergone prostate cancer surgery or who suffer from enlarged prostates. Jesse Schulz says men with enlarged prostates can have issues with urinating. That could be with the flow or sometimes the urge or need to go is more frequent. He says if you’ve had prostate surgery the pelvic muscles or what they call the pelvic floor has to be strengthened which can happen through therapy. He says sometimes hip and back issues can also affect your pelvis and urination. Schulz says those who undergo prostate surgery also may suffer from erectile dysfunction, which therapy can also help improve.
