Title Not Settled For NW Trail

Fond du Lac County Planning and Parks Director Sam Tobias was hoping a title report he received this week would bode well for the northwestern trail that runs from Pacific Street in Ripon to the west county line. The County has some money lined up to upgrade the multi-use trail. He says, “We’ve got a couple of grants lined up to resurface the trail and also to replace a bridge on the west end. People in Ripon will know the narrow wood bridge over a tributary to Silver Creek it has been there for many, many years.” Alliant Energy rather than grant an easement wants to deed the property along the trail to the County and City of Ripon, but Tobias says there isn’t clear title to four parcels especially one that he believes is owned by Alliant. He says it took about nine months for the title report to be put together. The grants would pay for improvements to the trail next year. The trail is along what originally used to be the Sheboygan-Fond du Lac Railroad, which became the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad.

Mayville Has A New Police Chief

He will serve a six-month probationary period with a review to be conducted following the six months. Mayville’s former Chief Ryan Vossekuil left in July to become the police chief in Jackson.

Birschbach says it is expensive to outfit firefighters after they receive their training.(“As we send them through what we do is we have them wear old sets of gear which in training they can do that, but once they become certified firefighters you need to get them the proper gear training and by having us receive this grant are able to get them the proper gear.” The gear needs to be replaced every ten years. Ten volunteers have joined the Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department over the last two years so the grant will come in handy to outfit half of those firefighters.
