WINTER STORM WARNING

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the area until early tomorrow morning. The Warning is in effect for, Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties until 3 am Wednesday morning, and for Marquette, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago counties until 6 am. Snow totals for Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties will be from 7 to 10 inches and for Marquette, Waupaca,  and Waushara counties from 4 to 7 inches.  For Winnebago County the snowfall total could be 6 to 9 inches. The heavy snowfall will be accompanied by winds gusting from 35 to 40 miles an hour. Travel could be difficult.

WAUPUN SNOW EMERGENCY

Waupun Mayor Rohn Bishop has declared a snow emergency in the city. It will be in effect until 6 am Wednesday morning. Parking restrictions during the snow emergency will help crews to safely remove snow and keep streets cleared for police, fire and emergency response vehicles. During a snow emergency, parking is prohibited at all times on the south side, east side and southeast side of all streets in the City of Waupun. Exceptions are for portions of streets located in the commercial district. That includes Main Street from Commercial to Carrington Streets, Madison Street from Franklin to Olmstead Streets, Fond du Lac Street from Franklin to Main Streets, Carrington Street from Main to Brown Streets, or streets where parking is restricted to one side of the roadway.  Most cities have winter parking restrictions.

WINTER DRIVING TIPS

The state’s Department of Transportation is recommending drivers “Know before you Go,” in light of a winter storm. They suggest monitoring local forecasts and checking the 511wi.gov website for road conditions. Other tips include clearing snow and ice from vehicles, filling your gas tank and windshield washer fluid, having a fully charged phone and emergency kit in your vehicle. Also alert others about your route and expected travel time. Other precautions while driving include Snow means slow so plan extra travel time and following distance. Be cautious on bridges, overpasses, and entrance and exit ramps. Avoid using cruise control in winter conditions. Buckle up and put your phone down while driving. Leave room for maintenance vehicles and snowplows, and move over and slow down for stopped emergency vehicles. In case of a crash or slide off, stay in the vehicle, turn on the hazards, call 911 and move vehicles out of traffic if possible.
